Our Bat of the Week is a̶ ̶c̶o̶t̶t̶o̶n̶ ̶b̶a̶l̶l̶ the Honduran white bat. 🦇

This bat is of the two smallest frugivorous bat species in the world, weighing about as much as a US Quarter. 🤏
These tiny cuties are only found in Central America and have a Global Conservation Status of Near Threatened by the IUCN.

The spotted bat, named after it's distinctive white markings, is ironically rarely 𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘥 by humans. Given its preference for remote roosting sites, infrequent observations do not match their status in nature. The spotted bat has a Global Conservation Status of Least Concern by the IUCN. ⚫ ⚪

Fortunately, bats have special sheathing over their flexor digitorum which act as a ratchet, essentially locking the tendon into place. 🙃
