It’s been quiet this wk at Watermead whilst patiently waiting for the first early migrants, but on 01/03 a nice surprise was the BLACK SWAN from Startops Reservoir (about 8 miles away as the swan flies) arriving with 2 Mute Swans…

The wheel experiment attracted a few woodland visitors, with mice, red squirrels and even a pine marten stopping by to check it out... But @chrisgpackham.bsky.social definitely gave it the most effort! 🛞 🏃‍♂️

Wow! Check out this amazing video sent to us by Debbie Lawson of a kingfisher hovering & diving for prey! 🐟❄️

Kingfishers can dive at speeds of up to 25mph, & strike their fish prey with excellent precision! Not only are they beautiful birds, but they are highly skilled hunters too!
