It's publication day for A Feast of Folklore!

Normally I'd be in town signing every copy I can find but I might melt in the heat. So pretend I'm posting amazingly professional promo pics here, and not clinging to a fan.

The Petrie Museum is an oasis of calm after a trip to the British museum.

When the weather cooled down I could finally brave London to do a book tour. I got to see A Feast of Folklore in the wild.

Out now it has a foreword by @tastinghistory.bsky.social and recipes by me, as well as weird food traditions and tales.

For more on strange, predictive cakes may I suggest my book A Feast of Folklore? It's full of strange food traditions, superstitions, and general oddness.

Happy 11th Birthday to #FolkloreThursday! I would not have written half the things I have had they not let me guest host! Thanks to Willow and Dee Dee, and everyone else involved.

And my book, A Feast of Folklore, is out next Thursday.

Wish I'd written about sea gooseberries in my book. I love a comb jelly.

Happy Shit-Sack-Day! Or Oak Apple Day!

Either way it's the day to celebrate King Charles II hiding in an oak tree to escape his enemies.

I love British folklore...

This weather makes me want to evolve into a crab and scuttle into the ocean.

I'm reliably informed everything is better down where it's wetter.

My mental health got the better of me. I was supposed to be talking at the Hay literary festival this year. It was an amazing opportunity.

Unfortunately my anxiety about doing it got too much. I've had to pull out.

Doing better now, but I think I have to accept writing is my medium.

Happy Beltane!

Get your Beltane celebration going with a mock human sacrifice. In Scotland you pass bits of bannock, a type of oatcake, around. Whoever gets the burned bit gets the honour of 'dying'.

For more food folklore see my upcoming book!

If you love food and folklore then do I have the book for you! It would really help if people could pre-order A Feast of Folklore.

Plus it will teach you things to do with your nuts you never dreamed of.
