I gave this talk at Wiscon many years ago; it explains how Jewish culture arose from its millennia-long material and social conditions, as well as being an autobiographical essay on late-20th and early-21st century SF media culture.

I had a great time at #readercon. "Writing from a POV that Hates You" was unexpectedly moving. It was great to be on the panel with Sally Wiener Motta, @andreahairston.bsky.social and @benjaminrosenbaum.com. Not pictured: Alexander Jablokov, moderator. Behind my papers: my novel Spider in a Tree.

The drive by calligraphy is absolutely always one of my favorite parts of being on panels at Readercon!
@benjaminrosenbaum.com with great points as always- one of the other panelists was saying we shouldn’t be worried because of the human propensity for resistance, but that’s a bad argument because we are the humans that need to be resisting.

My story “Memeostasis” was in last month’s @lightspeedmagazine.com! I'm a slacker & also underwater with various eldercare & moving adventures so I am only posting about it now.

It's a classic kinda outer-space-shenanigans/literature-of-ideas SF yarn, with a stylistic nod to Terry Bisson. Enjoy!

This story is fantastic!
So @josie.zone and I wrote a story about exactly this (not Star Trek, but aliens converting to Judaism) for the anthology Jewish Futures a few years back, and you can read it here:

I'm not a professor, but this strikes me as amazing pedagogy, a fascinating experiment... and also just a great story (I particularly like the third-act twist).
Last term I tried an experiment: I walked into my Tech and Design Ethics class, admitted that I had *no idea* what to do about ChatGPT - so I would let them figure it out.

As in: their first project was to decide and write the ChatGPT policy for the class.

Since I’ve wandered onto social media, here are some things I should be promoting:

1) There’s still time to sign up for the 1-week in-person writing workshop with @maryannemohanraj.bsky.social & me near Chicago, May 30-June 3 (right before the Nebulas Conference, so we can all roll there together)
