Drumcree Orangemen desecrate the memory of the dead

Seven people - three men, one woman & three children - were killed by loyalist terrorists because of Drumcree in the 1990s. I covered the terrible events.

Is this forgotten? What’s happening now mocks their loss.

Our Writer at Large covered the Northern Ireland Troubles extensively. Here, he remembers the lives lost over Drumcree and says Loyalist protestors…

Fun fact: these three people currently at Drumcree Church in breach of the Parades Commission determination were aged 4, 5 and 10 when the original Drumcree Sunday march issue first blighted us.

Just to fully underline how spiteful this shit is for those unaware:

On the left is the route the Orange Order have been ordered to take for the past 3 decades without trouble.

On the right is the route that has brought hundreds of cops to Drumcree.

The only motivation is sectarian antagonism.

A couple of months ago Carla stood front and centre as a masked Loyalist mob shouted racist and sectarian abuse at a peaceful parade.
She did not end up in the back of a Landrover.

So many former flashpoints in Northern Ireland are now peaceful. Residents and the Order have, to their credit, sat down and worked something out. Would have been great if Garvaghy was the same but unfortunately a section of unionism wanted this fight.
The complete nihilism in bringing this back.

Lots of people on both sides keen to bring the Assembly down. Some sympathy with the uselessness arguement. But for the life of me can't see how how either side get something better out of it.

Hard to think of a more depressing and pointless sight.
Imagine trying to resurrect this nonsense.
Unionists have clearly run out of ideas and want to collapse Stormont but the question is - what comes next?
Northern Ireland live: Orange Order to march in Catholic part of Portadown after near 30-year ban
Northern Ireland live: Orange Order to march in Catholic part of Portadown after near 30-year ban
Protestant march is scheduled to take place in an area that historically has been a flashpoint of sectarian disputes Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the latest news in Northern Ireland after a Protestant march was permitted to go ahead on Sunday for the first time in almost 30 years. The original dispute over the route of the Orange Order parade down the Garvaghy Road in Portadown became one of the defining flashpoints of the conflict in Northern Ireland. A Protestant parade may proceed through a Catholic area, Northern Ireland’s high court ruled early on Sunday, reversing a temporary ban on the highly charged march in an area that has historically been a flashpoint of sectarian disputes. The high court dismissed a new application to stop the Orange Order from going through the area of Portadown after the court of appeal vacated a temporary injunction granted on Saturday to residents who opposed the parade. Residents of the Garvaghy Road area had challenged ‌Friday’s ruling by Northern Ireland’s Parades ‌Commission that permitted the Orange Order to march along their road, a Catholic enclave in the largely Protestant ‌town, overturning an almost 30-year ban on the route. A crowd gathered on the Garvaghy Road early on Sunday morning to protest against the ruling to allow the march. In the crowd were Northern Ireland first minister Michelle O’Neill, who is also vice-president of the Irish nationalist Sinn Féin party. The party’s leader, Mary Lou McDonald, posted a video on social media of the gathering. “Although the forces of darkness may want ‌to stop us creating a new united Ireland, they will fail,” McDonald told a crowd of protesters in the clip, posted on X. Annual attempts by the Protestant Orange Order to march through the area triggered unrest across the British-run region before the route was banned in 1998, the year the Good Friday agreement largely ended the three decades of violence known as the “Troubles”. The Parades Commission’s determination on Friday stipulated that a smaller-than-usual ‌35 people could take part in the march, that it should begin by 8am (0700 GMT) and finish by 9:30am, and that no supporters or bands would be allowed. I plead with people not to propagate their "it won't make a difference; his supporters love him" gloom. Actually, Farage is on the ropes and he didn't get there by himself. He's there because people continue to believe resistance does make a difference. It's also wrong on the facts. 1/3

There have been some horrendous cases going through our courts over recent weeks, and which I didn't post about. All were local men and they'd attacked current or former partners, as is the case for the majority of violent assaults and rapes.
