"But the handicapped need cars!"

No, what they need are options in mobility. The tech exists to enable their freedom of independent mobility, but almost always what is lacking is the enabling infrastructure. Bike lanes and quality sidewalks serve everyone.

Good news: Governor Newsom signed SB 1167!

Authored by Senator Catherine Blakespear and co-sponsored by CalBike, the new law draws a clear line between legal e-bikes and high-powered electric devices too often marketed as e-bikes.

SPUR’s new report details how catastrophic it will be for Bay Area transit riders if the public transit funding Measure RTM fails.

But drivers will feel it too, w an estimated doubling of Bay Bridge crossing times and more than 3X longer through the Caldecott Tunnel.

Hey folks, with everyone going back to school and a ton of new e-bikes going around, I wanted to re-share the Bike Streets app.

It's a curated bike navigation app built around the network of streets that people actually ride on. It's free to use!

Check it out and let me know what you think!
Hey East Bay bike riders, I wanted to share something I've been helping with

The Android/iOS app "Bike Streets" is a navigation app that is built around a network curated by people who actually ride. This means the directions it gives won't throw you onto a terrifying 4-lane road, like Google Maps

The explosion of e-bikes, e-trikes and e-scooters is truly revolutionary...The joy and freedom of biking is intoxicating for everyone who has had the opportunity to try out life on two or three wheels with a little e-boost.

I won't claim that riding a bike fixes everything, but moving your body, getting some fresh air, and being face to face with nature on a simple commute can do so much for your physical and mental health. You don't always have to leave the car at home, but give it a try sometime if you can.

Amplifying the call to action from our friends at @bikeleague.org --- send an email to your elected officials today telling them to vote NO on any transportation reauthorization bill that would cut federal funding for bike lanes and other bike safety projects.
ACTION ALERT 🚨

Right now, the Senate is considering adding language to the transportation reauthorization bill to restrict bike lanes. Tell Congress: funding for bike safety projects MUST continue!

The one genuinely helpful California e-bike bill this session (out of the 8 introduced) has thankfully been passed by the legislature and is now going to the Governor for his signature or veto.
Some good news for your Friday: SB 1167 has cleared the California Legislature and is headed to Governor Newsom’s desk.

Thank you to our co-sponsors PeopleForBikes, Streets For All, and Streets Are For Everyone for helping move it across the finish line.
