I've spent a lot of years studying a lot of collapses, and the truth of the matter is that they're always mundane: mild climatic shifts that reduce crop yields, a dumbass in power who makes some terrible decisions, neglecting things that obviously matter but the will to fix them can't be summoned.
Certain kinds of smart people tend to have a "sexy apocalypse" problem when it comes to thinking about risk. E.g. skynet turning everyone in paperclips, while bad, is also *kind of cool and fun* at the same time. Where the reality is that most actual disasters are both stupid and disappointing.

One of the absolute worst repercussions of “Karenhood” is the fact that corps have weaponized customer anger against its own clients. No matter how shitty the product or service it is verboten to complain to the employee. Corps know this social faux pas exists and can cut satisfaction even more.

No offence here to Maryellen but I’m tired of this attitude from a country that voted him in twice knowing exactly who he is. It’s not her fault but Dems do have to learn that there is SOME collective guilt here.

"Weird" was OK, but I really wish someone would call Republican voters what they are: Suckers. These are dumb rubes who fall for the wallet inspector routine over and over again. They spend their last pennies on magic beans because are in the constant thrall of some grifter. Be meaner to them.
This is why “weird” was working in the first part of the 2024 campaign and I was dumbfounded when they made Walz stop.

As part of Gen X I sadly agree.
One side effect of the baby boom retaining a suffocating grip on real power through sheer scale is that the typical transition into power among middle-aged Gen Xers has been stunted. So Gen X has to lean into corny, nostalgia-centered cultural power instead.

Yes but there was a time when Americans voted in people with at least a vague understanding of mutual benefits and a realization that the ROTW has agency. No one can really guarantee that anymore. He was voted in TWICE.
also I think people need to read history. a lot of our alliances have been through much tougher situations where fundamental interests - and not just grandpa's whims - have clashed.

idk as time goes on, i find people trying to defend the US military's honour on here, and it puts you insane places. Pretty clearly targeting people were overburdened so they pulled an old list. Well apparently that violates a principle of distinction not proportionality
