I'm a man of many interests, but mostly I'm here for the birds. All photos (except reposts) were taken by me. Most of my birding (so far) has been done in Wisconsin.
Perfect weather today to finish the Mammoth Hike Challenge. Over the course of the past month, participants had to hike at least 46 miles of the Ice Age Trail to earn a patch. Mission accomplished! 🦣 #hiking 🥾

It took until today, but I finally saw a Tufted Titmouse this year! Also got to hear a pair of Barred Owls hoot back-and-forth before seeing one of them in flight. #birding

Happy World Migratory Bird Day! I haven't seen a Dark-eyed Junco yet this fall, but look forward to when I do. It's my favorite #bird that frequents my backyard in winter.

Gotta go with Chocobo, the only one awake and alert.

Wisconsin is brighter than the sun on this map, which is great for birders here!
Strong migration through the central states tonight.

Too bad he sent our troops on another "very expensive excursion into Hell.”

Kalamazoo? More like KalazaMOO, am I right?

Thanks to that strategically-placed leaf, the puffball specifically looks like a *bird* skull now.

Happy National Coffee Day! I got mine from 7 Brew Coffee this morning, and I got this freebie sticker from them, too! ☕

Another half billion bird night, with the approaching nor’easter visible as a blank area on the BirdCast map. Always a possibility of coastal birds coming inland with a storm like this. #birds #fall #migration #LightsOutForBirds

That's great! Made me think of Winslow Homer's water works.

I was there last month! Fun fact: I spotted my first Mourning Warbler by the small creek not far from Claire d' Loon. 🐦
Mercer, Wisconsin, self-proclaimed Loon Capital of the World, at the center of town has a giant loon statue it calls Clair de Loon. You can press a button to make “Clair” give a variety of loon calls. In case you didn’t hear enough in your time in Wisconsin’s North Woods.

Awesome event! Not only did we get to watch the "swiftnado" of birds head into their roost, but we also were treated to a flyover by an osprey carrying a fish. And it was great to see some of my birding friends there, too! 🪶
Swift Night Out was incredible! ~600 people, 1,000+ chimney swifts. Huge thanks to our amazing partners Southern Wisconsin Bird Alliance & Feminist Bird Club of Madison. Swift Week continues nightly thru Friday the 11th 6-8pm, at Cherokee Heights Middle School in Madison, WI! 🌅🐦🫶🏾

While on vacation in the Wisconsin Northwoods and Michigan's U.P. this past week, I finally saw my first Mourning Warbler! Also got my closest-ever look at a Golden Eagle, which was perched atop a tree along a rural road. 🐦 #birding

Had fun at the Madison Night Market last night. Good food from Sandwich Hub, great music from Secret Menu, and cool conversation about birding with the women manning the booth outside the Orpheum Theater (randomly started because one of them noticed my whole family was wearing bird shirts).

Hat's off to staff and volunteers who installed bird dots on the windows of the polar bear enclosure at Henry Vilas Zoo yesterday. It was certainly something different we got to see happening at the zoo during that visit! ⚪ ⚪ ⚪ ⚪ ⚪ ⚪

I haven't seen many hummingbirds this year. I wonder if there's less of them around here this summer, or if it's just me.
