Biked to BCN airport, honestly it was lovely. Certainly made better by the fact that it was 4am. But still, pretty much 100% bike lanes, nearly all structurally separated from cars 👌👌👌👌👌

Dear @erc.europa.eu , we DO already have common standards & frameworks. 'AI' likes to pose itself as 'special' but we do not need to reinvent the wheel. We already have established codes of conduct for research integrity. We just need to apply them.

The way I couldn't figure out why we would need enforcing for ebike parking 😂

my most cherished German trait (after earnestly and correctly insisting that so many things are a slippery slope towards Hitler) is loving sparkling water, so I'll be rating every brand of sparkling water I can find here in Barcelona

Funny how it's always exactly three months post moving to a new city when my brain goes "omg everything here is so fucking annoying". Can't wait for the annoying stuff to turn into soft background noise again 😂🙄

Finch West LRT finally has real transit signal priority!

Phase rotation is active at multiple intersections, such as Finch & Signet/Arrow.

This means adjusting the car left-turn signal in real time based on predicted LRT arrivals to minimize transit delay.

This tool from @observingthecity.ca is fantastic.

It shows the traffic mode share by intersection using City data.

Many downtown areas are dominated by pedestrians (in green).

Yet *we still give most of the space to cars on almost every street.*

Well, it finally happened. A driver doing a right turn hit me on my bike, in a bike lane. I'm physically ok.

My spidey senses served me well; the driver wasn't signaling, but my gut said they might turn, so I slowed down and watched. Slammed on my brakes, so only light contact with my front wheel.

CEO should really be in favor of stronger regulation/enforcement cause otherwise Mangioning them is kinda the only option
In this class we're in the middle of reading about ways that AI has already harmed real people in its actual applications. There are so many examples (and that list is growing everyday) that it's not possible to cover them all.

Trans women in sport:

This table shows how massively out of place the UK is in Europe.

The UK is the only country that bans trans women from most sport. Even recently-fascist Hungary is fairer than the UK.

Britain is a transphobic outlier.

I really hate the framing of these stories as "an AI agent broke out and hacked something."

No, an inadequate sandbox meant that a powerful and unpredictable computer program was set loose on the open internet by the company that designed it. The agency isn't with the "AI agent", it's with the firm

I think we found a good use for LLMs (keeping Piers Morgan busy so he doesn't bother actual people)

What in the editor is this headline 😭 every time a newspaper imputes intention to LLMs, a tiny kitten dies -- have you no mercy, El País?

See the funny thing is I walk and bike every day and as a pedestrian I have one near miss with a cyclist once per year (which would lead to a few bruises tops), whereas as a cyclist I have about two near misses with cars per week (which would hospitalize me)
Nearly been run over twice today by cyclists, one on a pavement the other going down the wrong side of the road. How's your day going, and can we perhaps start asking for some basic rules to be followed?

just had a car going 60 kmh-ish cutting me off to turn right in front of me with like ~30cm to spare and, wow, all my biking-in-traffic cPTSD wants at this point is bloody murdery revenge

Hey Siri, how to say "no worries if not" without sounding insecure, when the issue is that I want to *seem* open to feedback on my proposal but in my heart of hearts I REALLY don't want to put more work into it

I swear to god, why the fuck would you want a "Quick Read" for an academic paper, the authors literally provide one themselves?????????
