The end of summer where I live has a distinct scent. Musk of red elderberries crushed under foot. Yellow sweetness of wild chamomile’s fading blossoms. Rot of jewelweed and nettle overburdened and flattened onto the path. Mineral tang of the muddy shoulder of the gravel road.
