Barley on Skara Brae. | Historical drawings, Scotland, Historical The original artwork is by Dr. Alice Watterson, (University of Dundee) an archaeological visualization specialist, artist, and filmmaker. The piece was created as an interpretive watercolor illustration for the collaborative multimedia project Digital Dwelling at Skara Brae. Produced alongside Kieran Baxter and Dr. Aaron Watson, the project combined raw archaeological data, laser scans, and traditional art to explore the sensory environment of the Neolithic settlement at Skara Brae in Orkney, Scotland. This specific painting visualizes bere barley, a six-row heritage grain that was actively cultivated by the prehistoric inhabitants of the village nearly 5,000 years ago.
