Constant reader, always looking for my next great read. SFF fan for 50+ years, but I read many genres and love to talk about books. Also ridiculously obsessed with birds.

Did you know that Francis Halzen's IceCube Neutrino Detector is at the South Pole?!?💈⛄️

Building it was an absolutely wild idea and a huge challenge, and I highly recommend Mark Bowen's book The Telescope in the Ice which will tell you all about it!
BREAKING NEWS
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the 2026 #NobelPrize in Physics to Francis Halzen “for decisive contributions to the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and the discovery of high-energy neutrinos of astrophysical origin.”

WHOOOP it's October and we're going to be doing some reading!

We've been running the OcTBR Challenge for years now and I'd really love to build the community here even more, so if you lovely lot could share away that would be amazing thank you.

Can't wait to see all your TBR pile photos today!!
🍂📚🎃 HAPPY OCTBR CHALLENGE! 🍂📚🎃

It's the best month of the year and a time to look lovingly at all the books in your TBR piles and go:

"Yeah, you know what, I'm going to actually try to read some of you!"

That's it really. Cosy up and read the books you already own (to make room for more obvs).

Ooh, this looks great!
Aloof and haughty, slinking and sometimes sinister, cats are a mainstay of weird fiction for good reason: for all that we love them, they’re unknowable, unpredictable and a little uncanny.

I am not first and will be far from the last to say this:

I have purchased so many books because I saw them recommended or publicized here on bsky. I cannot urge you all enough to KEEP TALKING ABOUT BOOKS.

I know it's easier to talk up someone else's book, but this also means you, the shy author.
I have mentioned it before, so maybe, but I know others liked it too. Hooray for word of "mouth" (or post) for getting it seen.

Before the role of oxygen in combustion was discovered, the prevailing theory was that burnable objects contained a substance dubbed "phlogiston". It was thought that burning released phlogiston into the air and the fire died down when it ran out.
Tell me a fun fact.

It's been an awful week at Chez Bookish, with a heat wave, wildfire smoke, and roofers pounding on our heads.😵 But today the heat is gone, the smoke is gone, and the roofers are (mostly) gone—and best of all, there's BOOKMAIL!!🎉

3 titles not published in the US, supplied by lovely Blackwell's UK.

Boy, With Accidental Dinosaur by Ian McDonald is a great little coming-of-age science fiction novella, full of dreams and dangers and dinos! (And it's not aimed at kids, despite the hokey cover.) Right now it's a steal for Kindle users in the US! Don't miss it!
