BEHOLD: THREAD OF BATHTUB BIRDS
I had a thread on twitter that I am now going to move here. context: in my neighborhood, one house converted an antique bathtub to a working fountain, added a kiddie pool, put plastic lawn birds in them, and the birds get rotating seasonal outfits
trying to phrase this so it doesn't end up in search results for an actor someone loves, but every post-OBC version of Orpheus I see makes me even madder that the OG was 1) cast in the role at all and 2) allowed to stay as long as he did. he delivers every line like Rachel Berry in Run Joey Run

[tw for severe illness/suicide] I was telling my doctor today that it can be really hard to talk to people about how sick I got last year without sounding overdramatic because people can't really understand what it's like to be certain of your own imminent death unless they've been through it

I'll admit the saddest thing about posting on social media right now is its very likely the only reason I would stop doing it is not because I want to stop.

It's because there won't be a platform I want to post on.

I have been telling my wife for SIX YEARS that she has sleep apnea and I have been VINDICATED. does anyone who was CPAP-hesitant but had a good experience have any words of encouragement for her? we're hoping to get the mouth guard thing but my insurance is changing November 1st so coverage is TBD

I'll never forget the Skidmore show where Puck was played by two people simultaneously with matching but mirrored undercuts because they couldn't decide who to cast. at the time one used she/her and the other used he/him but there's no way that hasn't changed, the Gender of it all was off the charts
I'm learning more about the 2019 adaptation of A Midsummer Night's Dream and god I love a weird adaptation of this show. can't wait to figure out how Oberon ended up being the one to fall in love with the donkey man while Love On Top plays

Really enjoying this mass convergence of videos auto-playing AND auto-muting. The perfect design pattern. Fortunately, access to the playhead is collapsed in some way and has to be revealed so that you can struggle to precisely tap a too-small tap target. They've really thought of everything!

truly I think Shakespeare in the Park productions should be legally required to be released for the public. they already record them, the Delacorte Theatre is in a taxpayer-funded public park, and we saw with 2025 Twelfth Night that it's totally doable and doesn't impact ticket sales

the thing about Havemercy is that I think anyone who would talk to me about it hasn't reread the series in 10 years out of the same fear I had that it might have aged poorly but Mel and I were both absolutely delighted by how well it holds up

a few weeks ago I developed a strategy to adapt the Volstovic Cycle books into a 12-episode limited series in a similar way to how the Shadow & Bone show worked with the source material from different series and I maintain that it's brilliant but there's no one to talk to about it :(

you know how some people will have an experience doing shrooms that heals something inside them and for the rest of their lives they're just a little bit different, but better? I legitimately believe that's what being on an episode of Last Meals would do to me

it's kind of funny that people who are richer than god still can't legitimately pay people to love them and it eats them up

Thank fucking god discord did age verification to protect kids from getting gambling ads from discord
Discord has relaunched global age verification after the original rollout in March was delayed due to user privacy concerns.

The rollout also coincides with the appearance of sports betting ads in the US.
Discord Launches Delayed Age Verification Measures
New options for verification have been added, along with automatic age group using "account signals," and better vendor transparency.

can someone give me a reality check on what reasonable pet adoption fees are? we saw a dog we couldn't stop thinking about but it wasn't clear if he'd been adopted yet and their fees weren't listed. unfortunately (for us) he had been adopted and their fee is **$750** which seems insane to me

at 4am Luna let out the longest, loudest, saddest cry I have ever heard her make to the point that both Mel (a notoriously deep sleeper) and I jolted upright out of a dead sleep and I can't stop wondering what she might have been dreaming about to make a noise like that :(

I'm sure there's some kind of physiological explanation for this but for whatever reason it's only my ankle that gets the stereotypical broken bone "it's going to rain tomorrow" feeling. my collarbone will hurt with changes in weather but only my ankle actually feels them in advance

also idk if I've talked about this before but Luna LOVES transmasc people, so when we met a group of four she was the happiest I've seen her in days. we ran into them again on a different block and she literally tried to follow them home while completely ignoring the cis people trying to pet her
the walk was nice because New Haven does a porch fest where bands will set up on people's porches and lawns every few blocks and there's live music all afternoon, it's IDEAL weather so everyone was out and Luna and I got stopped by people asking to pet her sooooo many times
