The alt-left is the same parasite that leeched onto the right and created the abomination we see in the Whitehouse today. Rebuke.

This is the alt-left when they see Abdul El-Sayed campaigning with the first and only Black president of the United States.
Please make sure Obama doesn't start babbling about "Judea and Samaria".

Wow. I did not expect this. Credit to him, he stands on conviction. So much love to you @georgemonbiot.bsky.social. Opposing genocide through a policy that explicitly supports genocide is a very strange thing to do.
“Zionism is racism” is not a policy but a slogan. It compresses a complex history, going back millennia, and a very wide set of beliefs into one narrow meaning. The answer to genocide is not discrimination. We don't fight racism with racism. I’m gutted to see this motion adopted by the Green Party.

@thenewsagents.co.uk thank you for today’s episode. Jon and Emily, both have the courage to speak the truth without falter. @jonathanfreedland.bsky.social a voice of moral clarity every single time.

This Green Party motion has actually opened up a conversation at least, one where people cannot hide behind thought-terminating cliches. That at least is a silver lining.

Preach, Nathan! The alt-left and the alt-right are like siblings bickering at a party that everyone else has already left because they’re sick of their racist bullshit.
A recurring controversy in left-wing spaces is "Was Person X being antisemitic or does he just call everyone he's arguing with a 'filthy lapdog of the globo-capitalist elites who should be liquidated along with his spawn'?" and I'm kind of tired of it, to be entirely honest.

What does it mean to be a member-led party when the Greens have 230,000 members but only 1835 voted on the Zionism Is Racism motion? Doesn't seem like you can claim the result as the iron-clad democratic will of the membership while dismissing the concerns of actual democratically elected MPs

Perfectly stated. Precision in language would go a long way toward bringing a larger consensus on what actually needs to be done.
Which is all a long-winded way of saying: These debates about Zionism and anti-Zionism are mostly unhelpful right now, and I wish everyone could just drop these terms unless speaking historically and talk about their political vision for the future in other terms.

You can support net zero, LGBTQ+ rights and a Palestinian state. But if you attend a synagogue or partake in almost any aspect of communal Jewish life, the Green Party now considers you a racist.
Jewishness itself is now the offence

The most sane response. Rather than suggesting conspiracy, The Atlantic did what you’d expect which is report what they told him.
I know this is besides the point, but a long time Trump fan straight up lying to The Atlantic about supporting him, to the point of claiming to be a lifelong Democratic voter, is pretty wild. That wall be cracking
It’s confusing that @theatlantic.com described this man as a “a lifelong Democrat who had voted for Trump for the first time in 2024” who when these are some of his very easily findable FB posts:

The only people mad at Chris Rock's comments about "Woke 1.0" are the people he's talking about. You know what you did, how you set progress back years. I know you are incapable of taking criticism and accountability. But you should, if you constantly criticise others, be open to criticism.

In the wake of the “Zionism is Racism” UN motion spearheaded by the Soviet Bloc & Arab League in 1975 (repealed in 1990), there was a concentrated campaign at universities around the UK to ban Jewish societies.

Not Israel societies.
Jewish societies.

We know where stuff like this leads.

The “Zionism is racism” may cause the Green Party legal issues. The Equality Act 2010 protects philosophical beliefs. This has previously protected the right to a belief in democratic socialism on the basis that it qualifies as a philosophical belief. I suspect Zionism would be seen similarly.

Reading the letters carefully drafted by Green Party MPs and leaders, which thoughtfully and earnestly express a desire to ensure Jews don’t feel excluded has given me some hope at least. The motion is indefensible. The Green Party will struggle massively with this.
