The musicians who dropped their spots on the Ed Sheeran tour had skin in the game: they gave up money, exposure, and potentially future work to show their principles.

Contrast that with people who put all of the consequences on the rest of us when they decide not to vote based on "principle."

Right now seems to be peak Joro season in North Georgia. The webs are all over the outside of the house, but I'm letting them stay in hopes they'll kill more pests. I worry a bit about them crowding out the local species, but I've seen different species with adjacent webs, so hopefully not.

164 years ago today. An entire campaign full of drama, mystery, courage, and heartache. The immediate result was the issuance of the Emancipation Proclamation. Not until Appomattox was the outcome of a battle more enduringly consequential.

Just wait until the quarterly earnings reports come out. There has never been a time when a windfall profits tax was more necessary and needed. As well as justified.

Trip to the grocery store today forcibly reminded me of how almost every retail sector engaged in unjustified and frenzied price gouging basically since 2021, and now they're telling us their costs are going up so prices will rise again.

Voter suppression is.

I guess this is a matter for state law rather than federal, but I'd sure like to see a mandatory $10000 fine for telemarketers who use caller ID masking with fake numbers. I mean, per call not one time.

It's certainly not a coincidence that every battle we commemorate in the struggle for worker rights involves workers rebelling against something business owners were doing that we would find atrocious and unthinkable today.
This Day in Labor History: September 15, 1845. Women working in the Pittsburgh textile mills met in Market Square to discuss the necessity of fighting to cut their days from 12 to 10 hours without a reduction in pay. The workers struck and a militant confrontation with capital resulted!

There was already a hard zero chance I'd ever go to an Ed Sheeran show before, but now with this Macklemore thing that chance has decreased.

Apologies to whatever fans he might somehow have out there.

Somehow I think there has to be a better plan to achieve a political goal than subjecting the country and the world to another 3 decades of demented authoritarianism to punish some politician for saying something you don't like.

A literal nazi is the Republican candidate for a seat in the Florida Legislature, and it will actually be a big story if he suffers an upset loss in the general election.

Don't tell me the problem is that we're so "polarized."

Final section, in its entirety:

"How can I protect my children from getting measles?

Get them vaccinated."

The fact that this statement is now considered politically polarizing is enraging.

Seriously though are Republicans ever asked about Musk’s support in tandem with quoting his most racist or anti-Semitic tweets?

They say April is the cruelest month, but in North Georgia it's September. After a summer of blistering temperatures and smothering humidity, you get a day or two of cooler, drier weather, followed immediately by several days of 90's again, racketing up and down for weeks.
Then there's the ragweed

I really hate almost everything about the first couple of weeks of the football season where everybody's playing "tune-up" games.

Except when certain teams are unmasked as being seriously overrated. Then only their fans and the sportswriters cry.
