An ersatz disalienation, or the spectacle of same, I think has a lot of explanatory power. Politically it would be entirely expected in a neoliberal system where the operating conditions include the replacement of actual mass political relations with the appearance of political relations.

The really incredible thing is that "mantasy" appears to have been coined (this time around) not as a way to market the books to consumers but to pitch them to the executives deciding on the publishing calendar. It's like a word for everyone in the meeting to nod at each other when they hear it
