the Ohio Democratic party is purging its ranks by forcing trans people to either resign or go along with politicians who threaten their existence and calling a pride group an "unwelcoming distraction." If we're just a distraction, then win without our votes and get rid of the fake "pride" orgs 👍🏾

this is so fucking funny coming from the guy who ran his site as a money laundering ring then ratted on *everyone* under him to save his own ass
“Democracy has been hailed as, like, the holy grail for the last couple hundred years, but democracies are inefficient,” said the crypto billionaire. “If you get a benevolent dictator, it’s actually extremely efficient."

Hmm, where have I heard this before?

they should declare me a patriotic hero of the nation for having 10k+ points of Warhammer Fantasy Empire troops
Working on a piece for Defector about Warhammer 40k, something I've wanted to write for about five years, and my research revealed that Games Workshop contributes more to the UK's total economic output than the entire fishing industry.

It’s so funny to imagine what the UK could be like if it took seriously any of its cultural icons—that aren’t wizards, Shakespeare, or in possession of good fortune but in want of a wife.

We could have Tyranid statues at Heathrow. Perhaps a grisly frieze depicting Servitor conversion at Gatwick.
This gets said constantly, but it worth reiterating: Games Workshop being bigger than fishing is important to shout about because you wouldn't know it from government talking points, which are rarely about anything creative or artistic. Growth won't involve fish or steel, it will involve goblins.

If we had a federal government that wasn't firmly up the ass of Big AI, they'd make it a crime for an AI to put people in mortal danger by sending them into wilderness areas with fictional instructions.

If a human kept doing this, they'd probably go to jail, even under existing laws.

My husband just got one of these. We're living in wild times omg.
Relative got a $500 check from US Treasury and a shocking letter full of lies signed by Trump and ending with "May God bless you". Basically a pre-electoral bribe. News reports say they're sending almost a million of these. Full text in alt below. (I told him to cash it quick before it bounces.)

A nonfiction book written in, let’s say, the year 1795, is most likely still around in a library somewhere and every other work it referred to is probably accessible in some archive as well. A nonfiction book written in 2007 probably cites a bunch of urls that are dead or rotted beyond recognition.

I still think about the conversation I had with an uber driver
Him: so what do you do
Me: I’m a video game writer
Him: wait, video games? They have writing? What do you write?
Me: you know when you open up a game and you see the words?
Him: yeah?
Me: those
The funniest/saddest reaction to this amazing article has been people going "wait, Stellaris has WRITERS?"

Yes folks, if a game has words... someone probably got paid to write them... even if that game isn't an RPG or a visual novel...

Oh neat, so the U.S. copyright office is feeding submitted books to the slop machine to test their authenticity, and as always it decides "yes, this is my slop" even when it isn't, because the slop machine is an incestuous ouroboros with itself.

Glad it was resolved in this case but fuckin yikes
Oboy. So, remember how I published a book with @neonhemlock.bsky.social in April called The Mystery of the Bitten Peach? I went ahead and registered the copyright. As you might imagine, the main reason I bothered to do that was *because* of the AI companies stealing copyrighted material.
