Under Labor we have seen wages flat line, the rise of the far right and record war profits from fossil fuels going untaxed. We think these are ‘somewhat concerning’.

Is anyone here in Brisbane and know of a rental that would suit a family of 4 (incl baby and toddler) and within a 30min bus ride of UQ?

We have applied for 10 places now and been rejected for all. Starting to get worried that we won't be able to find a suitable place to live...

This is a long shot, but do any of you happen to be looking for tenants to rent a property you own near UQ in Brisbane?

It's hard to find a place to rent when you can't attend inspections 😩

My Boomer parents have each independently discovered Substack. I'm now getting a lot of:

"Did you see this on Substack?"

"Look at this video [clearly AI slop] I found on Substack"

"Oh yes, this was mentioned on Substack"

In honour of Dolly Parton, encourage your children to read books. In honour of Tim Curry, encourage them to play near an open storm drain in the rain.

Millions delay or skip appointments as specialist care become too expensive for many Australians - new research
A submission to a Parliamentary Inquiry by The Australia Institute reveals that seeing a specialist in Australia is now more impacted by a patient's ability to pay than their medical need.

Nooo! RIP Tim Curry. He'll always be Hexxus to me. Arguably one of his best roles.

Parton was probably the only one of the ultra-rich whose passing makes the world worse off.

Asking toddlers about time is a riot:

[In the car, noticing that the baby has woken up]

L: Hey M., how long has F been awake? A big bit or just a little bit?

M: Um, he's been awake for 4 days

Just heard a hilarious AI story:

Apparently a journal used AI to generate the key terms in a recently published linguistics paper and the multiple mentions of the Australian National University's team (i.e. ANU's team) led to the AI identifying the very important key term 'anus'

I think I just saw my 11 y.o. laptop finally die: the screen filled with fine horizontal black lines and then it slowly faded to black. And now it won't turn on.

Goodbye ThinkPad e560. I'll never forget our time together watching 100s of hrs of Star Trek and writing my PhD thesis.

RIP

Thousands of languages have disappeared throughout human history. New research is shedding light on why.

A study coauthored by Yale linguist Claire Bowern finds that widespread language loss began not with European colonialism, but roughly a thousand years earlier.
Study uncovers lost ‘golden age' of languages
A new study coauthored by Yale linguist Claire Bowern suggests that tens of thousands of languages were spoken between 1,000 and 3,000 years ago.

My 74 year old father is in Cairo and just sent me a video of the incredible view from his hotel roof-top restaurant.

I can see the pyramids right there in the background, but instead he zooms in on the building sites and rubbish on the top on neighbouring buildings. 🤦‍♀️

If you're suddenly inundated with clothes moths, they probably came from my place. I just threw out a continent's worth of grubs and moths living in rolled up carpet scraps and a bag of bean-based heat packs 🤢

Working in collections has made me hate moths more than any other insect.
