I read these criticisms of Hasan's statements in that Axios interview and, to the last, they are arguing with things that he literally did not say.
I can't even say that they're deliberately missing any nuance; he said what he said in terms that anybody who *listened* could easily understand.

Yep. The US is still far away from Nazi Germany, but we are getting a lesson in how Working Toward the Fürher operates, or fails to operate. Maybe even more dysfunctional because this particular Fürher is no longer has even brief flashes of lucidity.
One thing that I think about a lot is in “Wages of Destruction” Tooze describes how the Third Reich didn’t really have a theory about public policy or the economy. They limped from crisis to crisis their entire existence finding emergency stop-gaps to achieve short term priorities.
