We made Hacks/Hackers' site accessible to AI agents, and they're already showing up.

An llms.txt file leads agents to our MCP server to search archives, and we added "Ask" AI buttons for readers to send pre-filled prompts to Claude or ChatGPT. What we did here: hackshackers.com/go/2026-05-a...

Forget hotel ballrooms. Our AI x Journalism Summit was in a former warehouse, with no cushioned chairs and rooms where people sometimes sat on the floor. It fit the vibe we were going for: Not perfection, but ready to build.

Confession: I have walked around odd places with my laptop open so AI agents can keep coding. Using AI is like having superpowers, but it's also keeping me up at night. I talked about it for my opening of the Hacks/Hackers AI x Journalism Summit: hackshackers.com/go/2026-05-u...

What does it take for a small newsroom to ship with AI? Cohort 2 of our Newsroom AI Lab — Bellingcat, Trusting News, Prison Journalism Project — shows the pattern: define the real problem, externalize the unwritten judgment, build only what fits.

What does it look like when a story shapes itself based on who's reading? I built a demo that tailors summaries of new NYC mayor Mamdani's statements based on your context. Publishers need a new platform to enable experiences like this: a Context Management System: hackshackers.com/r/2026-04-co...
The Content Management System Is Dead. Long Live the Context Management System.
Generative AI is unraveling the finished-article model. What replaces it is a system built on context: raw reporting, flagged analysis and journalism as the verification layer. Plus a proof-of-concept...

Having been on the ground in other countries the U.S. has claimed to run in the wake of military action (Iraq, Afghanistan), having American officials actually there taking over the government and military is usually a prerequisite -- although in no way assures the U.S. actually runs anything

Strava is one of the best social networking experiences - people supporting each other in athletic achievement. Nextdoor is one of the worst - neighbors griping, jumping to conclusions, bickering, bringing politics to unrelated issues, borderline or outright racism and prejudice.

The AI overview feature in Google is so shockingly bad, it’s amazing that the company has released it to users. It regularly confabulates and hallucinates results, mixing facts together, undermining confidence in Google altogether — and likely is driving people even more to other AI products.
