Amtrak's new Airo trainsets debut on the Cascades route on Sept. 30!
It's a "whole new era at Amtrak," @amtrak.com President Roger Harris said Tuesday.
Its new Airo trains will debut on the Cascades this summer and East Coast in 2027, becoming the workhorse of Amtrak's fleet by replacing Amfleets that date to the 1970s.

This is one of the wildest things I learned researching my book. Planners predicted that cities would be economically ruined unless they built freeways through the city center.
In fact, the opposite happened: The cities with successful freeway revolts came out the strongest economically.

“It increasingly looks like the cities and neighborhoods that successfully fought off freeways were the best off.”
The US had so many walkable, compact downtowns then we tore most of them apart. What if keeping these was the norm, rather than the outlier?

The latest transit data, for July, show that the Seattle urban area now has the best ridership recovery of all large US regions.
That's especially true over the past few months, as the region has had routinely higher ridership than pre-pandemic.
