Where passion meets practice.
Mastering moves, meals, miles, and more!
Hey there, Bluesky. It’s been a while.
It is my yearly tradition to clean up my social media. But I’m around!

It’s humbling to change gears from being a coach + student to just student.

I remember being asked to already coach / mentor students 2 months into starting Tangsoodo, so it will be such a mindset shift for me to not have teaching as part of my learning process.

But it’s a change that I need now.

What it feels like as a female martial artist on social media: They still don’t believe that you’re a certified coach.

Chinto Progress 2017 thru 2025

Here’s a look into the same Dangsudo hyeong (form) since my 2017 ACL reconstruction surgery.

I’ll always be that Karate Girl with Red Carpet 😉

We pay too much attention to strong opinions—and too little to deep insight and broad perspectives.

Pontificating is not a sign of credibility. Hot takes are not a substitute for being well-informed.

Expertise is how much you know. Wisdom is knowing how much you have to learn.

I’m being called to reflect how the world rewards extroverts and introverts feel that they have to “fit in”.

This is not only in the corporate world but also in the martial arts world: Who talks more, posts more are knowledgeable experts to be trusted.

💡You are valued.

It’s been a long, long time.

Monkey Steals Peach just posted this exhibition find, and it reminded me of something familiar:

Kwon Bup section in Hwang Kee’s 1977 Tang Soo Do book, English version.

I’m not a history buff nor am I a translator, so I defer to the experts. But it can be inferred that there are influences.

63 studies: women who assert their ideas, make direct requests, and advocate for themselves are liked less.

They're also less likely to get hired—and it hasn't improved over time.

When will we stop punishing women for violating outdated gender stereotypes?

You're entitled to your own opinions in your head. But if you choose to express them out loud, it's your responsibility to:

(1) Ground them in logic and facts
(2) Explain your reasoning to others
(3) Change them when better evidence emerges

In cutthroat cultures, people kiss up and kick down. They protect themselves by currying favor with people in power and exploiting those without it.

In supportive cultures, people speak up and shield down. They protect others who lack power by raising problems to those who have it.

Stick, Adhere, Connect, and Follow

Q: Why some folks raise the lead arm up while in the middle of stepping forward for the next technique (the 2nd picture).

A: Pretending an actual point of contact, maintain the same pressure during the transition to stay in contact and not lose your opponent.

Something came to my attention and I was reminded about this previous post by Prof. Adam Grant.

How do we continue to be resilient to challenge the status quo when it remains pervasive?

Changing your mind doesn't always mean you've abandoned your principles. It often means you've learned something.

It's better to contradict yourself and be accused of hypocrisy than to stick to your guns and sacrifice your values.

The hallmark of integrity is not consistency. It's honesty.

I’m being asked more and more to teach Taijiquan but I haven’t quite finished Yang-style 24 Form. I’m not yet comfortable teaching Taijiquan in the way it’s intended: A martial art.

But I currently teach Baduanjin qigong and coach mobility using FRC systems with Taiji principles.

Confusing, maybe?

I recognize that we are in a time of extreme politics, but I wonder where the current gauge is on how the consumer expects businesses / entrepreneurs to speak on a position vs. protect a brand to continue to be in service to all.

Where is that delineation: personal vs. business brand identity?

In toxic relationships, you're forced to choose between honesty and loyalty. You bite your tongue to protect their ego.

In healthy relationships, honesty is an expression of loyalty. You speak your mind to help them grow.

When you have trust and respect, candor shows care.

In job interviews and college admissions, we focus too much on what candidates have accomplished, and too little on what obstacles they've overcome.

The true measure of people's potential is not the height of the peak they've reached. It’s how far they've climbed to get there.

It’s amazing how emboldened people have become since January 20th.

But lest they forget: the people also have the power to report their social media accounts for bullying and harassment.

Not that these would go very far with tech oligarchy, but some of us are savvy enough to *still* try.
