We are looking for autistic adults in the U.S. willing to give input on a measure of conversational success based on autistic preferences rather than NT norms. Please share broadly and reach out with questions!
October 8, 2026 at 9:31 PM
We're currently working on adapting this for autistic people (based on their conversational preferences). If you are autistic and would like to provide input, please let us know!

We've never been able to find a validated person-reported measure of conversational success. So our team created one. Developed and validated with help from over 900 participants. Can be used in both research and clinical settings. Check it out!

Yes, this all makes sense. And I certainly agree on the need to disentangle different mechanisms/recognize that these are different phenomena (raising this as an issue was a primary goal of the mechanism paper we just published).

Perhaps the problem is that our definition of “definition” is not aligned 😅, but very interested in your and @yngwienielsen.bsky.social 's thoughts.
May 18, 2026 at 4:50 PM
So I would disagree that alignment “captures everything” and think that the fact that there is potential conceptual satiation about cognitive mechanisms may be a different problem.

Agnes says, “I feel isolated” and Bill says, “Isolated.” And I think we can all agree that this is alignment. But if Agnes says, “I feel isolated” and Bill says, “Potato”, I think we can all agree that this is NOT alignment
May 18, 2026 at 4:50 PM
This is a well-written and thought-provoking. To me there seems a difference between the definition of alignment (i.e., what is happening) and the underlying mechanism (why it is happening).

A bit late in posting this, because...the world right now.
But this seems like as good a time as ever to share our new article highlighting why DEI efforts in the area of social communication and autism are a really good thing. Like- you know- maybe something worth keeping around 🤷‍♀️ 🤯 🤦‍♀️ rdcu.be/edAY9

I can't think of a more supportive group to postdoc with. Happy to answer any questions about my experience being mentored by Stephanie and Tyson(@healthandstats.bsky.social) and working with @kaitylansford.bsky.social and @sarahyl.bsky.social.

Lots of different options for research areas/mentors, but if you are looking for something in the area of speech coordination/conversation/perceptual learning, Stephanie Borrie is looking for someone to join her lab and is a phenomenal mentor ☺️

@sarahyl.bsky.social, I would love that! We have connected with some Facebook groups, but they are all specific to Houston, so probably not any that you are a part of 😊

We are recruiting! If you know any autistic teenagers in the Houston area who may be interested or if you have connections to groups or people who would be willing to spread the word, please let us know!
