Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research is the premier peer-reviewed journal dedicated to the scientific, medical, and psychosocial exploration of clinical cannabis, cannabinoids, and the endocannabinoid system.
🐭 Low-THC, CBD-rich hemp oil boosted sociability in mice — no sedation, no side effects. An early lead for conditions like autism.

⚖️ Could cannabis compounds help treat obesity?

This review makes the mechanistic case: obesity involves chronic inflammation, and THCV, THC, and CBD have anti-inflammatory and metabolic effects. Cannabis users also tend to have lower BMI.

🐀 CBD cut alcohol intake by ~50% in alcohol-preferring rats — without affecting chocolate seeking, so it's not sedation. May work by easing the anxiety that drives drinking.
A preclinical lead for anxiety + AUD.

🌍 In 2020, Lebanon became the first Arab country to legalize medical cannabis — driven by economics ($1B/year in projected exports), not public health. The law is export-only, excludes traditional farmers, and psychiatrists warned it skipped proper consultation.

📉 Who needs high-dose cannabis for chronic low back pain? A new 4-factor score predicts it with solid accuracy (AUC 0.80) — and high-dose users saw the most pain relief. Bonus: 93% of baseline opioid users quit by year 5. 🌿

🧪 How to store cannabinoids so they don't degrade:

Room temperature turns THC into CBN. CBD-only products hold up fine on the shelf, but THC-rich ones need the cold. Most stable option for THC: an ethanol solution kept at −20°C.

Storage should match the product.

🔬 Do cannabis "cured my cancer" stories hold up?

Researchers tried to verify them against medical records. Of 97 patients who reported a benefit, only 15 had reviewable data, and just 1 case met the bar for strong evidence.

👵 12.1% of US adults 50–80 used cannabis in the past year, and 34.2% of them used 4+ days/week.

Use skewed toward unpartnered, unemployed, and drinking respondents. That's frequent use in an age group with polypharmacy, fall risk, and thin evidence.

🐟 CB1 agonist cut aggression and brain oxidative stress in zebrafish.

After 24h isolation, ACEA-treated fish struck and bit less than controls or AM-251 fish, with lower malondialdehyde and higher sulfhydryl in dominants and subordinates alike.

🧪 Cannabis self-report doesn't hold up in psychosis.

38% with a positive urine or hair test denied use in the past 90 days (CATIE); 70% denied it in a forensic sample. The authors argue for creatinine-corrected urine THC-COOH as an objective standard.

🧠 Medical cannabis for non-motor symptoms in Parkinson's: 3-month open-label cohort, 50 completers.

Improvements in overall NMS burden, sleep, pain, and quality of life. Nighttime urinary frequency also dropped, while daytime measures held steady.

📊 Cannabis research mapped: 10,577 articles across 7 databases.

Most from the US, UK, and Canada; peak in 2021. Top journals lean addiction and toxicology, but neuroscience was just 1.6% of the literature. The mechanistic work is the gap.

Roots carry triterpenes, sterols, alkaloids, and phenolic amides, with preclinical anti-inflammatory and analgesic signals. Cannabinoid content is minimal.

🧴 Topical CBD for fibromyalgia: 12-week single-arm pilot, 30 women.
Localized pain down by week 4 and held at week 12 (60% hit MCID). Function improved. Full adherence, no adverse events. No change in fatigue, anxiety, or depression. No control arm; RCT needed. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

🧭 Oldie but goodie: 2024 review on the endocannabinoid system & axon guidance. Across animal models, disrupting CB1, CB2, GPR55, or eCB metabolism causes axon pathfinding errors. Developing axons are sensitive to cannabinoids: a frame for prenatal exposure work. journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1...

🧬 New RCT (n=24): oral THC:CBD eased fibromyalgia symptoms but left plasma NAEs (PEA, OEA, SEA) flat over 16 weeks, with near-zero effect sizes.

Takeaway: blood NAEs may not track cannabis response here. The mechanism looks central, not peripheral. 📄

Medical cannabis is legal in 47 states, but contaminant testing standards vary widely. A new review covers testing for heavy metals, pesticides, mycotoxins, and residual solvents. The science is there. The harmonization isn't. 🌿⚗️

Topical/transdermal CBD is everywhere, but the clinical evidence is thin and poorly designed. A systematic review in Cannabis & Cannabinoid Research found just 8 qualifying studies out of 544, all with high risk of bias. The market is way ahead of the science. 🌿⚗️

"Fast-acting" cannabis edibles actually live up to the name — new PK data show THC peaks ~30 min earlier than standard edibles. Same Cmax and AUC though, so the total exposure is identical. Useful for dose timing; doesn't solve overconsumption. 🌿📊

THC suppressed BDNF gene expression in the adolescent mouse hippocampus — but co-administration with CBD prevented it. A reminder that what's in the product matters as much as whether cannabis is used at all. Sex differences observed too. 🧠🌿

HPLC is the gold standard for cannabinoid quantification — but slow and costly. A new study tests A-TEEM spectroscopy + machine learning as a faster alternative, hitting R² = 0.994 across 14 cannabinoids. One to watch for high-throughput work. 🌿🔬
