"The biggest opening in modern American history to limit the unchecked power of the tech elite."
🧵Moments when the public suddenly sees the consequences of unchecked corporate power are RARE.

Dems squandered an opening post-housing crisis. Now is an opening for big reform. We must not make the same mistake with Big Tech today.

I wrote a memo to Democrats @contrariannews.org 🧵🧵🧵
Memo to Democrats: Your Anti-Big Tech Majority Is There for the Taking
The backlash against data centers is the perfect opening for a popular mandate to rein in Silicon Valley.

OpenAI started as a nonprofit with one promise: ensure AI benefits all of humanity. The billions it amassed belong to the public—not OpenAI's to take. As it moves toward a trillion-dollar IPO, our coalition is demanding the SEC force real disclosure before working families are exposed.
We got California to intervene about OpenAI's corporate switch from nonprofit status. It's time for the SEC to come to the table | Fortune
A little-known Class N share lets the nonprofit Foundation control OpenAI's board even if it sells its 26% equity stake, raising fresh SEC questions.

The trial between Elon Musk and Sam Altman over OpenAI’s restructuring began last week at the federal building in Downtown Oakland, and our founder and CEO @catherinebracy.com was there.

Whatever the case may be with Elon, @catherinebracy.com has been critical of OpenAI’s restructuring and its potential impact on the future of AI and the nonprofit sector. This is what she had to say about the trial

I read it as “seems like Sarah Friar wants a defense when the cops come calling.”
I can’t be the only one who reads the recent WSJ/Information OpenAI stuff and their top takeaway is “seems like Sarah Friar wants a different/better job”

Who among us hasn’t prompted the AI to depict us as a doctor only to have it turn us into Jesus instead?

The Democrats keep telling us the enemy is Hasan Piker, with clumsy dogwhistle Islamophobia that nobody normal responds to—and meanwhile there's this incredibly powerful wave of anti-Silicon Valley sentiment out there rippling through *the very people they need to mobilize* to vote for them
Two data points from a recent drive thru rural Virginia. 1. Many lawn signs saying "No new data centers," "Vote no on data centers," etc. 2. The classic rock channel promoted itself as "Every song chosen by a real human - no AI."

I sent two prompts today and got cut off until 9pm.
Anthropic appears to be torturing AI people. Claude Opus 4.6 has become significantly less-performant over time, they also have been messing with rate limits, more token burn in some cases too, documented at length. Anthropic basically saying “no problems on our end sorry”

The war is going so bad, they’re trying to put Epstein back in the headlines. Weird choice.
Melania Trump: The lies linking me with Jeffrey Epstein need to end today. I've never been friends with Epstein. I never had a relationship with Epstein or his accomplice, Maxwell. My email reply to Maxwell cannot be categorized as anything more than casual correspondence.
April 9, 2026 at 6:44 PM
Why is Melania pre-empting war coverage to talk about how she wasn’t friends with Epstein? This is wild. Is she actively trying to throw her husband under the bus?

Surely it can’t be good news for oil markets that we’re just gonna keep kicking the can down the road indefinitely. Right? Right?!
AP: Trump has extended his deadline for Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz to April 6. The president made the statement Thursday in a social media post. He said he will hold off on bombing Iran’s energy plants.

Reader, we all know what the right answer is here.
One source of the discrepancy could be a lie of omission. Where one company has encoded into their AI that it should decline any requests that involve killing people while the other has had Hegseth to pinky swear that he won’t ask their AI to kill people.

But if he does…oops.

- Watched while Anthropic got the screws put to them
- When the winds of public opinion turned, he said he fully supported Anthropic’s position

This is one of the evilest things I’ve seen come out of a tech company in my career, and that’s saying something.
Facebook plans to put facial recognition in its glasses and they think we’re too stupid to fight back.

Their internal memo: “We will launch during a dynamic political environment where many civil society groups that we would expect to attack us would have their resources focused on other concerns.”
