so sad to say i'm one of the devs affected by this and am leaving at the end of the month

i've had an absolutely incredible time at ko_op helping ship our 3 most recent games over the 4 years i've been here. i love all my coworkers and hope that things improve and we get to work together again soon

The 6th annual Indiepocalypse Pledge Drive is live with the ever present goal of Breaking Even! (and more so supporting the whole catalog of contributors)

Any support, whether it's contributing to the drive or spreading the good word, is very much appreciated!

seeing games+tools like "pwease we only use ai tools for code and mundane things so not the creative things... 🥺👉👈"

skill issue 🫵 i am a programmer, it is a machine, and i have the superpower of Thinking For Myself to learn enough to make machines do what i want them to

anyway, one of the things i'm very excited about in young suns right now is the jovipedia feature. my friends have heard me gripe about writing the entries for it for years but it's amazing to see it come to life after my crappy little miro mockup from 2+ years ago

So with the news of the layoffs at KO_OP, I'm officially looking for work later this fall. I'm an experienced narrative designer that's worked on both sprawling open world stories and intimate cinematic narratives, even netting some award wins and noms. More details on my experience below!

it's been a rough couple of days, and weeks, and months.

i wrote a bit about how it's felt to say au revoir, and possibly goodbye, to ko_op.

charlit is the reason we have such an absolutely baller character creator in young suns!! literally one of my favourite people to work with because not only is she incredibly skilled but she brings so much joy to absolutely everything she does and i'm gonna miss our morning ko-working sessions sm 😭
So sad to go but so grateful for the opportunity 🫶 I love the team sooooo much and hope to get a chance to work together again in the future!

Our ko-working era may be ending, but the gifs will live on forever ✊

I've had the chance to work with Noé lately and I can confirm everything that's being said in the other quotes. They are very thoughtful, kind, and a joy to work with!
i'll be looking for work again sometime in the winter once i've recovered from some post launch burnout, but in the meantime i'll be spending time indulging my tooling brainworms, releasing my RNG package, learning godot and other tools, and writing blogs about the super cool systems i built for YS

Noe is genuinely the coolest person I've ever met, oh my god. Deeply curious, unbelievably talented, built our Yarn integration basically from the ground up. I feel like I could ask her literally anything and she'll have an answer within 20 minutes.

noé is a fantastic programmer and coworker, extremely sharp, kind, patient, communicative and calm under pressure, a hard worker, a dream collaborator. If I were hiring they'd be on my shortlist.

alex is an absolutely unstoppable force of sheer animation skill!! all the animation in Young Suns is his handiwork and it's astounding how fast he is for the volume and quality of animations he does. he's also a joy to be around and his patience and understanding makes working together so so nice 🥲
I've been affected by this. I'll be remaining at KO_OP until the end of the year, at which point I'll be looking for full time animation work, either remote or onsite in Vancouver. I will likely open commissions around this time too, so keep an eye out.

Noé joined KO_OP soon after I did and was such an integral part of getting our narrative tooling for Young Suns set up!!! She's so driven and passionate about tools and narrative systems and our resident Yarnspinner Sicko on the tech team, any team would be hugely lucky to have her

everyone who knows her considers noé their coolest friend. owned our localization process and our Yarn Spinner implementation on Young Suns, plus tons of other work across the game (and a bunch on others too). the noé brainworms are real and they are powerful.

ellen's an absolute powerhouse! i still have a sketch of klos they drew saved from over a year ago because it gave me brainworms and all the other characters feel so distinct and expressive thanks to ellen's designs. they're such a joy to work with, hit them up for any work you'll be so glad you did
Sadly I’m one of the affected members. I love KO_OP and it’s hard to imagine working anywhere else. Manifesting that they get a pitch funded soon so that the studio can keep going strong. Please play Young Suns when it hits steam!

If anyone has a concept/2d artist gig after Dec, please let me know!

daniel is a DREAM and not only is he incredible when it comes to QA, he's been an absolute godsend producer on young suns. ive been so lucky to have him handling all of the loc coordination and i could not recommend him enough. incredibly considerate and thoughtful, he's an absolute joy to work with
i have unfortunately been affected by this, and will be leaving the studio at the end of this month. i will miss it dearly and am really hoping to make it back.

ko_op is/was likely my last ride in games, but i am open to the right opportunity. deets on my experience in thread.

i'm SO lucky to be one of the few programmers who've gotten to work directly with jenna for the last 2y and let me tell you, they're an absolute POWERHOUSE. only writer whose writing is so potent it's made me literally faint. only writer to make me sob looking at my IDE. absolute generational talent
I'll be looking for work soon and am in the process of crafting a portfolio website for the first time in a few years, but in the meantime if you know of anyone in need of a narrative designer (or illustrator, even) please keep me in mind 🥲
