Mullin began the press conference by saying "We are enforcing this nation's laws. Why is it controversial? Why would that be controversial?" As if all of human history doesn't show that laws and their enforcement can be very controversial (e.g., the 1765 Stamp Act and its impact on U.S. history).

They’re live-streaming the execution of the person they think they can get away with doing that to first. It’s a test. If they can do that, they’ll expand the margins of permission.

Just one horrific aspect of Hegseth wanting to livestream a public execution is that approximately 50–60 million children and teenagers under age 18 use social media platforms in one form or another in the US alone.
