Kerfuffle, Donnybrook, Ruckus, Rumpus, Brouhaha, Fracas, Foofaraw, Tumult, Tizzy, Hullabaloo, Cacophony, Cat-astrophe

Republicans are big mad at Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders over her anti-social safety net campaign ad. Not because they think welfare should be protected - but because the lazy character in the campaign ad was a white man.

Before Tyrant #Trump, Canada was such a close ally that any division between the two was unthinkable. Now, after repeated insults and a self-sabotaging trade war, Canada is being driven to the EU.

#BookReview for "Feminism in the Wild: How Human Biases Shape Our Understanding of Animal Behavior" by Melina Packer, Ambika Kamath This should have been a good book. It isn't. (I recommend "Animal Lives" by Humon instead of this) This could have been full of stories of interesting animal behavior being observed, scientists jumping to the wrong conclusions based on their cultural biases, and then the truth coming out later. The moral: be aware of your assumptions, prove your hypotheses. Instead, this is a dry, academic work that sounds like the authors created it purely to be required reading for graduate gender studies classes they teach. It really doesn't feel like it was written for a general audience. (What the heck is "co-constitution," anyway?) The tone is an odd choice - I didn't think words like "Marxist" and "metaphysics" should appear at all in a biology book, let alone being used so frequently. In the rare cases the authors do try to provide a legible meaning for a general audience, they often don't succeed. Take nature vs nurture. A simple enough concept: there's often debate about how much of behavior comes from genes and how much from the environment. The authors try to "simplify" this by urging the listener to imagine two people holding hoses in a bucket, pouring in water, and then to further imagine measuring the diameter of each nozzle and the flow rate and making mathematical calculations... that does NOT simplify anything.
