NSF has reduced the research budget for all atmospheric, ocean, and earth sciences by ~80%.

80%!

A lot of us will not be conducting new research or training new students for the foreseeable future.

Extremely grateful for the $66.33 that came in today, but I remain desperately in need of $345.48 ASAP for meds, food, bills, etc. (in addition to outstanding housing payments for this month & last, which is stressful), so please donate & share, as able!🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

Back in Trump 1, my EP and I used to spitball every now and then on the first question I'd ask Trump. We settled on "how do tariffs work?"
Just once, just absolutely once, I would like someone to ask Trump on camera how he thinks international trade works. Like, maybe, do an experiment with monopoly money and toy cars. "Ok, Donald, let's pretend I'm Canada and you're the US."
Trump: “If we stopped Trading with every country that we have a Deficit with, which is most of them, we would make, at least, 1.5 Trillion Dollars a year. The word ‘Deficit’ is nothing more than a fancy word for LOSS.”

Big news: The family of Tierra Walker, who died after she couldn't get an abortion, is suing a slate of Texas actors in state court, including AG Ken Paxton. They say the state ban is unconstitutional.

This is the first suit of its kind.

Tierra Walker died after she couldn’t get an abortion. Her family is suing Ken Paxton
The case, filed Tuesday, argues that Texas’ near-total abortion ban violates the state and U.S. Constitutions, which “prohibit state actors from killing their citizens.”

Worth noting that the Institute for Global Affairs polled Americans on some questions in May of this year related to this.

67% of Dem voters said the US relationship to Israel hurts American interests.
55% of Dem voters say all weapons to Israel should end, period.
60% say Israel commits genocide.
The right choice by Gregory Meeks— worth noting that he was also the only Member of Congress alongside Ben Cardin to block, albeit only temporarily, the transfer of F-15 jets to Israel under the Biden administration in 2024.

Biden pressured them to lift that freeze and they eventually did.
Ranking Member @meeks.house.gov announced he will not clear the Trump administration’s proposed $2.8 billion sale of 2,000-pound bombs to Israel due to concerns that those munitions would not be used in accordance with U.S. and international law.

Also, I read a lovely poem by Hieu Minh Nguyen.

HUGE: Elizabeth Warren, AOC, and other members of Congress have introduced a bill to push private equity out of healthcare.

The Stop Corporate Takeovers of Physicians Act would make it illegal for private equity, insurance companies, and for-profit corporations to own or control medical practices.
