This week I took my husband and a friend to see an old primary school acquaintance who’s going through a messy divorce and trying to persuade his ex that he’s still a good dad. He spent much of the evening dressed as a woman, which was slightly odd behaviour for him, but we all had a great time.

A random Facebook comment on Jeremy Paxman: "even if his life was a little colourful"

White men really can get away with doing whatever the hell they want without facing a single jot of criticism from their fellow white men.

I once went to a wedding where the father of bride started his speech,
"On this day in 1912, the Titanic set sail from Southampton…"
Announcing the merger with Titanic footage is an incredible bit

My brother came home one day, talking about the delicious "soft margarines" he’d had at school. After a considerable about of time and effort my parents eventually figured it out.

FFS. Sometimes (nearly all the time, to be honest) I just can’t be bothered with nail varnish, and long nails get in the way of everything. It’s not that deep, but if anything I’m sticking it to the patriarchy.

Last summer I had a delicious chicken chasni at an Indian restaurant in Pitlochery and I’ve been trying to find somewhere local that does it ever since, but I’m beginning to think that the place in Pitlochery is the one and only place that sells it.

Y11 doing a question about candles today. I did not even try to resist the temptation but they were utterly clueless. Who’s educating these people?

This is the wrong part of the country for me but sounds like a good opportunity. But is there someone who knows how life in a sixth form college differs from life in a secondary school? I’ve always been tempted but would want to know more first.
One for the UK Maths crowd - this would be a great place to work: www.tes.com/jobs/vacancy...

A level Maths/Stats/FM, large successful state college, lovely town. Fab students (such as my children :)).

No plans today - no weddings, no foreign travel, no familial obligations - so, of course, I’ve been body-clocked.

I am very grateful whenever colleagues cover my lessons. Of course I am.

I would be even more grateful if they followed my instructions for the lesson rather than doing their own thing and leaving me to figure out that I still need to allow time to do the things I thought had already been done.

Y11 student: do predicted grades matter and do our revision homeworks count towards them?

Translation 1: I’m worried that this could be important and I want to do my best.

Translation 2: I want to check that this isn’t important so I can get away with doing the minimum amount of work possible.

This year’s sleepless night was sponsored by Lemsip. Today may be a challenge.
For years I got stressed the night before school that I wouldn't sleep, so I'd be knackered, and the stress would keep me awake and so on. Here's my advice: don't worry about it. If you're tired, you're tired, it's all good. Your mind is buzzing, it's all natural, just go with it. You'll be fine.

If anyone can find me a real dog that can do all the housework, I’m in. The cats are cute but useless.

@hildur.bsky.social We were the (mad) tourists who went looking for northern lights near Krýsuvík! Unnur needn’t have worried though, because we hit fog so dense that we could no longer see the road ahead. All we could do was inch forward until suddenly we popped out in the open again. Terrifying!

Reading on the beach, minding my own business, when a small girl comes bounding past with her mum. “You’ll need to run all along the beach until you find Granny,” says mum. The girl stops, points at me, and yells in delight “found her!”

Call from my bank’s fraud prevention team claiming they needed to check a potentially fraudulent payment (which was indeed one I hadn’t made). They’ll block my card and send a new one and in the meantime I need to check my balances and tell them of anything other payments I’m worried about. 1/

What are the chances, do we think, that the press will have learned their lesson over Jason Arday and might consider not hounding Meghan for having the audacity to marry a British Prince whilst not being white?

Helpfully, Currys took my money, blocked me from the website before I got any confirmation, then sent their customer service reps home for the night before I could find out whether my order has actually been placed or whether they’ve just run off with my money…
