Degrowth Communist from Worthing, UK

The calculation by Partha Dasgupta that the Earth could sustainably carry 3.3 billion people if every single person was on a salary of $20k is eye opening to say the least. Even for a Degrowth Communist like me who has been saying similar things for about 5 years…

And they’re also talking about polling from More in Common, who always show lower percentages for the Greens in their polls.

Firstly, all death sentences are wrong and inhumane, and should be stopped forever. But on top of that, I find the idea that lethal injection is a less bad way compared to others is also weird.

Burnham had the gall to say he gave voters / viewers honesty. That’s a crazy thing to say given he just offered literal “sticking plaster politics”. The thing they always say they want to avoid but never do (except the Greens, and Labour under Corbyn). At least in my life.

EUROPEAN HEAT WAVE

Another exceptionally hot day in Western Europe with up to 33C in France and 30C in Germany and Belgium.

‼️Next 2 nights will be absolutely exceptional:
We might see some tropical nights even in Benelux,Germany and UK.
More than a typical summer night.

I think it’s interesting that Burnham talks about a sort of “National Care Service” as being his own personal pet project because the current / older system bit his own family hard. It’s like all the right wingers. They only care if it impacts them personally. They only have fake empathy otherwise.

The idea that Angela Eagle; who’s apparent lifelong passion has been to hate Jeremy Corbyn, and everything he stands for; is going to do anything remotely approaching nationalising water; is laughable.

He said it. A little bit of additional regulation, and powers for mayors. It’s a token gesture…

This woman Alys something from CityAM is obviously a very right wing, traditional Tory type, or perhaps further right than that. This is Labour conference. Why are the guests on Politics Live so right wing for a Labour Conference?

It was quite striking how Burnham made a point to say he was enjoying being PM because of what he can do for people. Not because of the status. Sounds exactly like something Zack Polanski would say. It makes me wonder if he actually means that, or if he’s been told to say that by advisors…
I’m watching Kuenssberg from Sunday. Man, she is so right wing and an awful journalist. She makes Burnham look like an actual social democrat.

Sounds like the Tory conference. Continuity Starmer. It’s all smoke and mirrors. Say neoliberalism is bad while continuing neoliberalism. They think the population is stupid. And in large part, they’re sadly correct in that assumption.

And obviously if it were up to me, I would ban both private landlords and private housebuilders entirely.

By that I mean the largest party in a governing coalition. But actually; even in that case, it would depend on the SNP (or Scottish Greens if they stand for Westminster seats) being in position to help. And if Scotland is still in the UK at that point.

Otherwise, it’d need a majority government.
As crazy as it sounds to almost everyone probably, if the Green Party isn’t the largest party in Westminster after the next election, the country is done for. I really believe that 100%. This is the last chance with maybe some time remaining. If this is correct, goodbye.

Very interesting that Helen Whately thinks peaceful protest is fine when it comes to anti-immigration. But presumably not when it’s pensioners holding up signs saying they oppose genocide and support Palestine Action.

Hard to believe how long we’ve been talking about small fucking boats in this country.

Safe routes. Allow people to apply from outside the country. It’s not hard.

And stop using the incorrect term “illegal immigration”.

They will not do it because Labour, Reform, Tories don’t want to fix it.

Josh Barberinde and the Lib Dems are so pathetic. All he says about their solution to not restricting benefits, is to grow the economy (so innovative, and to do that, you need to build green energy and associated industries. Are you going to invest in those?). And he also said tax specific wealthy..

I’m glad they finally got rid of the lowercase, generic e logo they’ve had for a few years. That was so bad. It wasn’t uniquely identifiable at all. This is a big improvement.

Stuart Jackson saying with a straight face that it should be a level playing field where neither renewables, nor rich industrialists should be supported by government subsidies.

Meanwhile how much are fossil fuels subsidised by?

I’d be very happy to see no subsidies at all on either. See who wins.

And green energy is great for GDP growth too, if that’s your objective. And Labour, Tories, Reform and Lib Dems all say that’s what they want. I don’t want growth. I’m all about degrowth. But even I want growth in some sectors to offset others in the medium term. That’s how you get it.
The media in this country is insane.

George Monbiot on Politics Live said renewables:

- Lower bills
- Are far less polluting
- Increase energy security
- Create huge numbers of green jobs! (300k already, with 400k more inevitably coming)

(And they’re also fast to build too)
