People with #LearningDisabilities have been invisible from the #AssistedDying debate. We spoke to them. On how to decide: “He needs help with decisions…He would probably speak to his mum and father and say ‘Oh, do you think I should die now or shall I die later?”

This study goes to the heart of how people with a learning disability make decisions - and who and what shapes those decisions. Find out what people told us about assisted dying on the 8th September, 1pm, at our webinar. All are welcome. events.teams.microsoft.com/event/e21186...

In Naples on a surprise holiday feeling very lucky 🍀 and devouring this most wonderful book by Lucy Easthope. I was lucky enough to hear Lucy speak at the recent Social Murder Festival by MMU. She is now my favourite person and I’m obsessed with reading all her work.

Through some incredible conversations, we've thought deeply with people with a learning disability about a range of issues relating to assisted dying. To name a few: capacity, agency, understanding information, safety, what it means to want to die, and human rights.

Anyone else just second guessing absolutely everything you see online in case it’s AI? I mean.

Amazing few days in Glasgow. Forgot how fun it is to design and present a poster - really nice way of thinking about your work. I presented a plain English poster, with a QR and handout for a more technical, detailed version.

Can’t bear this, not just an ick it’s disgusting and predatory to pursue someone who wasn’t even born when you were already an adult. Not just an ick it’s predator behaviour and not something I can ever find funny. www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio...
Alice and Steve review – Jemaine Clement and Nicola Walker’s icky comedy is dated and wrong
This tale of a midlife man dating his best friend’s 26-year-old daughter is interminable, and so unconvincing that Clement looks embarrassed throughout

Excited to be at my first big suicide and self harm conference presenting a little poster about my work so far this year. I’ve been co-designing an NIHR doctoral fellowship application about suicide for people with a learning disability 💚 feeling lucky to be here 🍀 #EMCRF

Spent two days interviewing brilliant people with a learning disability for two days this week at People First Merseyside about assisted dying. We had the most profound and moving conversations with far reaching implications. Let our PI tell you more…https://youtu.be/RinJ7q_dB0o?si=Pshfrsoz2wX9BU_K

Woooohooo paper acceptance!! After FIVE rounds of peer review. Academia is painful sometimes and it benefits no one to pretend it’s easy 💆‍♀️

55. The need for relationships at the end of life
I have been thinking about this: How can we support people’s ongoing need for relationships as their lives draw to a close? This may be especially important for people with a learning disability. To b...

Week away with partner and child. Very refreshing to switch off from work for five days. My brain is fried from negotiating snack, nap and sun cream schedules to keep the time A spent throwing herself around on the floor to a minimum. Otherwise, joyful and lucky 🍀

Thirteen months since a very magical first date. We celebrate every month. May a love like this find everyone. There would be far fewer wars and much less unpleasantness in the world. ❤️‍🩹

Are dentists not trained in trauma informed practice? It is up there with smear tests for me in how exposing/triggering it feels to lie down and let someone poke around your mouth. Goes such a long way to explain exactly what you are doing, check in about how patients feel before starting, etc.

Just love the relationships project. Relational practice in research means thinking beyond establishing trust and involving people, we have to get better at thoughtful endings.

Why do old tubs of play doh/chalk/paint always spawn when I think my kid is reading quietly in her bedroom?

So excited for an extra day off tomorrow with my girl 😭 We have a kids party which is one of my least favourite parenting activities but it is counterbalanced by nostalgic rewatching of the Rugrats and lots of mindful sculpting (play doh). (Also this scene broke my heart all over again)😭

I learned about this today. It's a v necessary and timely project, esp in the UK, and a topic we need to think about in much more detail. It was so heartening to talk to @christinarobertss.bsky.social about her work to include the voices of people with learning disabilities #nothingaboutuswithoutus
