I feel like the debate about what parts of AI are good and what parts are bad should wait until we solve the worldwide crisis caused by the fact that almost of all of its evangelists in both tech and govt are morally, intellectually, and ethically unequipped to oversee it, when not downright evil.
feels like there is a group of smart and well-intentioned people who long ago made up their minds that AI Is Bad, swore off using it, and now get all their info about AI from each other. not saying they're wrong that ai is bad! but i think they're gradually losing touch with what it is and does
I really wasn’t trying to start a fight with Prof. Bender but now that she has created a long thread subtweeting me and her disciples are all yelling at me, let me just say that this is the crux right here. She seems to respond as though I am describing something a priori impossible.

This is why we need female commentators at the top of the sport. Because all too often men fail to hold other men accountable. Despite the “protect women” narrative driving the transphobia in sport currently.
A remarkable moment on Sunday’s broadcast.

There are no “legitimate concerns” about trans people. There aren’t any about women’s safety or fairness in sports or kids being kids or fucking toilets. If there were you’d have heard of them before 2018. I am a cis white woman so you have to listen to me or I’ll cry.

Not everybody knows this, and everybody should. On Sept. 26, 1983, a Soviet nuclear warning system alerted Stanislav Yevgrafovich Petrov that the U.S. had launched a missile attack. He did not retaliate, preventing WWIII.
This is a post about AI.

"Disability activists warned for years that this would be the outcome of allowing COVID-19 to spread unmitigated. Now that it’s time to pay the piper, the state and its media allies are working desperately to sever the connection between COVID-19 and its consequences."
The Telegraph recently published an article about "sickfluencers" titled “How having a disability became cool."

We've republished a piece by Julia Doubleday at The Gauntlet pushing back against the article, which she calls "absurd on its face." thesicktimes.org/2026/09/21/c...

This is a very big deal. For those who don't know, this is not an opening act.

This was the Irish band that backed Ed Sheeran on the tour, including at MetLife, on the song Galway Girl and others.

He has lost his own backup singers and band over this.

It's huge.

Starting to feel like British tennis players terrible luck with injuries must be a part of the karmic payback for all the horrific things the UK did in the past, because at this point it’s verging on the extraordinary.
Jack Draper confirms he'll be out for the rest of the year as he recovers from injury. Says via IG that, "I am taking this time to reset and heal so when I return I am 100% ready to go."
