An exquisite autumnal Puffin Post cover by Jill McDonald.
Always love the way her illustrations feel like encountering an animation paused mid-frame & how the delightful madcap motion & sublime screwball astmosphere is always pleasingly spiced with the surreal, edged with something a little darker

I am proud of what Josh and I accomplished in this essay, which took deep reporting and data gathering, and which ultimately runs to a hearty 7000+ words to explain what's really going on with Jewish American and Israeli books in US publishing as PEN America and the ADL run cover for genocide
When Josh Lambert and Dan Sinykin tracked publishing deals since 2000, they found—rather than a decline in Jewish literature—that 2025 was the third-best year of the 21st century for book deals that publicly signaled Jewish or Israeli content. jewishcurrents.org/what-pen-ame...

Working on this reported essay, just published, increasingly took over my life for the last two months. PEN America did a terrible disservice with its sloppy reporting about American Jews and Israelis in publishing in July. Josh Lambert and I tried to do better. jewishcurrents.org/what-pen-ame...
