This past year of decisions from Sony HQ (mobile ordering at Alamo Drafthouse, selling EVO to Saudi Arabia, killing physical media on PS, this) are making me start to believe there is an insider high up in the chain doing everything that they can to sabotage all goodwill Sony once had.

Any attempt to replicate Akira, even the proposed TV series supervised by Otomo himself, is doomed to fail. The movie is lightning in a bottle because it is one of the shining examples of cel animation's capabilities, and a remake that would use modern tech is missing what made it so special.

With the news of SAO getting a new movie, this is your reminder that if you hate SAO with every fiber of your being: you don't have to engage with it! Let the fans enjoy what they want to enjoy!
Keita Amemiya should absolutely direct with Toei again, at least one more time. Garo has grown beyond stale, and Kamen Rider needs one of its most distinct creative voices back.

The One Piece live action has been an above average adaptation, but the Reverse Mountain episode was the first time I really felt that distinct Oda magic. Having Luffy sing to Laboon was a stroke of genius, and a genuine improvement over the source material.

The anime industry is way less interesting without Gonzo. Say what you will about a lot of their later projects (ewww NFTs), but they were a hit making factory in the early '00s and many of those titles were totally original! Like Gainax, they were just ultimately undone by mismanagement.

Hentai anime nowadays is mostly garbage. Great if you like maybe one of three genres (incest, NTR, vanilla), but a total wasteland if you enjoy others that dominated the market decades ago (yaoi, futanari, BDSM). Also, I liked it when hentai had actual storylines! Bible Black was hot AND engaging!
