Stag Beetle
Oil on 6"×6" 24ct gold gilded panel
This painting was inspired by encounters with Stag beetles in my garden last month.
I love these rarities and am so pleased that my efforts in wildlife friendly gardening have resulted in Stag beetles emerging annually.

This original oil on panel study of a Mandarin drake lives unframed in my studio.
The painting is 30 years old and along with several others was never framed and was put away during a house move, forgotten about and then rediscovered at the end of last year.

I've been sidelined with back issues for a while and so this is the first piece of new art that I've made a start on in the last couple of weeks.
Still not fully fit so this is slow going but it will be a study of irises in oils on linen.

I thought I'd try a couple of bumblebees on a gilded panel rather than my usual solo bee for a change. It was a bit of an experiment to find a use for a couple of 7"×5" panels that have been knocking about the studio for a while.
