I don’t like living in a place where I can have a fun silly night then log on and read the deluge of unthinkable horrific shit that happened in the three hours my phone was in my pocket.

weird new subgroup of person I met at the Weird Al concert: 7-8 year old kid who was only there for the Michael Jackson covers

Has anyone else seen Puddles Pity Party? It felt like the kind of show you’d see at 2am in a dungeon in Edinburgh with twelve other people except there are several thousand people here.

as always, the answer here is to listen to survivors and then to push for actual, meaningful change. but when that doesn't happen, the focus shifts to pressuring survivors to relive their trauma and share it in public forums, be confronted by it in public forums, and THEN have nothing happen

I’ve been asking the same question (who is your favorite Pokémon) at every live event I attend for a few years now and to be fair this is the best (or at least most thoughtful) response so far

I’ve perhaps said yes to too much. In the next four weeks I have events in five cities, a full workload I have to be in person for, and apparently for one of those weeks I’m feeding someone’s cat.

Deeply interested in the economics of how cheap to midrange hotels always have a microwave and free breakfast and more expensive hotels rarely do. Like do rich people just have no use for leftovers and love to spend $50 on brunch or what

the Heroic Protector Fantasy is rarely of real use to women, it's just wish fulfillment about male posturing and it frequently exacerbates violence

it's also much easier to imagine yourself kicking the ass of an obviously villainous stranger than to to actually intervene where you have influence

the time has come for a paradise lost adaptation that really gets into the angel sex
I think the tendency to take older intellectual property and making it dark and gritty has run its course. Time to start adapting older texts to be maximally horny.

Just realized my formerly frozen lunch was left sitting in my car for five hours. I’m risking it. In RFK’s America whatever you eat is likely enough to kill you anyway.

We live in a time of manufactured outrage but the Choosin Texas thing feels like the most blatantly manufactured outrage in a minute. And I’m saying that the same week as the covid conscious lesbian bar fiasco.

Just finished Hollywood, Ending. It’s my favorite of John’s fiction, but I think it still falls behind his nonfiction in my personal enjoyment. It’s been nice being in what feels like a worldwide book club this week. Going to his tour stop Tuesday.

I don’t defend America on much, but…
I am not here to defend Tic Tac Toe vis a vis "does it mean anything" or whatever, I'm just saying Tic Tac Toe sounds like a fun children's game and Noughts & Crosses sounds like something they probably did during the Spanish Inquisition
