A Star Trek feature from July 1968’s “Fave” magazine with a gloriously smiling James Doohan, Walter Koenig, George Takei along with some splendid horses. It really is good to see the actors in period photos without any of the show’s leads looking so genuinely happy.

The BBC’s Gary Davies trying to explain in this week’s Radio Times why the 1980s were so special for music and failing spectacularly

“It saw the birth of electronic music … Hip-hop didn’t exist before the 80s …”.

No it didn’t. Yes it did. So much that’s wrong in just 14 words.

If you can get it, I’d recommend the new season of Lupin. Great fun in itself, and the second episode could be, if you’re of a mind to see it, a Batman vs Catwoman showdown. There’s even a Bat-Cave, an Alfred, and, potentially, a Robin waiting in the wings. It’s all great fun, Bats allusions or not.

Current listening: Eno & Byrne’s My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts. For the first time since it came out, I get it. Not just a few tracks - The Jezebel Spirit, Help Me Somebody - but the whole darn thing. Ah well. Music arrives at its own pace and it’s often in no hurry at all to make sense …

Dave Gibbons’ splash pages for the main feature in 1979/80’s Doctor Who Weekly are Really Grand Comics. Working with Pat Mills & John Wagner’s fine scripts, DG’s work was perfect for the series, action-packed, humane, epic in scale and thoroughly involving. In short, it’s all Darn Good Fun.
