I was seated next to a engineer specializing in water infrastructure and usage this evening and all I could think to ask was if he had read Imperial by William Volmann. He hadn’t. Now I want to read Volmann but can’t remember if I sold all my books of his last downsize or if they are still packed.

A stament that could only be made by someone who has never studied art history or art and has never spent time talking to art professionals.
art history is basically the story of humans making new things, being told by the establishment/tradition that it can’t be art, and then persisting long enough til their work is accepted as art, and then those same artists turn around and tell the next wave that the next new thing can’t be art
sometimes I think about the commentators of the time of photography's emergence and their confident assertions that photography is not and cannot ever be art

I can’t tell who is more baby brained; the people who insist that ‘woke’ was a serious constraint on them, or the academic who argue that Gen AI is no different from any computer usage whatsoever.

I’m so confused on how art gets shown in this city. The local art museum just opened a show with some *serious* heavy hitters of Canadian contemporary art in it. And yet neither the promo email nor the section on the website devoted to the show list any of the artists.

I’m listening to an interview with someone who has become an expert on kids’ online safety. At one point they compare the internet today to the ‘better’ internet of the 90’s where they talk about how amazing search was, text messaging, MySpace, and early Facebook. Hmm.

The university has implement an online portal, called Simple Syllabus, to ostensibly make things faster and easier for faculty and lectures. Friends, would you believe an online form with a million separate sections to fill out is *not* faster nor easier than drafting a word document?
