Hi new folks,
I post about movies (Mostly old)
I post photographs
(Mostly dumb)
And I talk about TTRPGS
(So many)

If I don't follow you back straight away just interact somehow so I know you're there.

(If you *only* post US politics I might not follow back, my feed is pretty full on that front)
Hey just checking, how many times do you have to learn that you don't know as much as you think you know?

Hey hot tip: Preply takes ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of the fee for trial lessons, the tutor gets nothing.

So I dunno, just book a paid class and see how it goes, I say.

I didn't connect the dots at the time but looking back, that's how 9/11 basically succeeded - making people terrified and desperate for theatre made them easy marks and terrible neighbours. And once people in power got a taste of that kind of population, they kept juicing it.

I found this ludicrous - nobody was going to target a call centre in PA and the world would objectively be better off without that business anyway - but people were really afraid and driven by fear. And the company did wind up doing obviously useless security theatre.

I have several 9/11 memories but in hindsight the most revealing one is that I was working at a shitty telemarketing call centre at the time and the next day people were clamouring for security in case we - Teletron, a spam call operation in Erie PA - were the next target.

This is infuriating. It’s not a peaceful protest if it leaves people scared to go about their business (or volunteering). These idiots need to be stopped.

Everybody Digs Bill Evans is “a fascinating, beautiful and impressive feat of filmmaking”, writes Luke Maxwell. But viewers seeking a beat-by-beat summation of jazz musician Bill Evans’ career will be disappointed by Grant Gee’s film, which is not meant to be a biopic.

On language learning platforms, the most brutal and exacting criticisms I see in community corrected exercises are from more advanced learners of the same language.

I guess maybe because they know what it's like to have to pass an exam in the language?

But sometimes it doesn't feel that helpful.

Saw Del Toro's Frankenstein in the cinema, still adore it.

My middlebrow take on Frankenstein is that he grew up watching family life that was not his own through a remove that prevented interaction.

TV made the world more like him, as we grew up watching these other lives we could never have.

I was learning to juggle and I dropped a video case but juggling instincts made me try to catch it by rolling it down my arm so it flew across the store and out into the street and the owner told me her staff was getting hassled during closing and I could rent 3 movies a night if I watched over them
Tell me about the video store of your past please
I have never felt older than the longing I just felt for weird little video stores because none of the films I want to watch are streaming in the US but I know I could've rented them on VHS if this was 1999!
