Shenmue's open investigation asks you to navigate intricate NPC schedules and shop opening hours, encouraging you to spend time in the community and avoid rushing through the story.

Written by Matthew Reynolds, read our second article on Investigations here:

The Indifference of Shenmue’s Schedule
Shenmue's suburbia mimics the rhythms of everyday life, with NPCs and businesses running to their own schedules - something the player must navigate when carrying out their investigation.

In the near-decade I've been publishing essays, I have never made a video like this. It's just the reality that without help, knowing I need to support my children, I can't continue with my channel. Thank you ❤️

Japanese detective games introduce new elements surprisingly late into their plotlines, placing greater emphasis on the people and motives behind the crimes.

Read our first article of Archetypes Volume 2, written by Malindy Hetfeld.

Solving the Mystery of Japanese Detective Games
The Four Act Structure sees Japanese detective games place greater emphasis on characters and their motives, asking questions beyond merely who committed the crime.

Highly recommend this one! I've played it, replayed it, and low-key speedrun it. Fun old school game with some of the best writing.

Please try saying the phrase "Doctor Pepper Manga Contest" out loud. Imagine Orson Welles saying it. A beautiful combination of words that should be seared into your memory.

I left a long overdue review! This is one of my favorite horror games and, as I said in my review, a master class in atmosphere and building dread.

Why is the soul they claim treated as a request instead of a right?

I've been playing Hades quite a bit lately. Not sure why I slept on it for so long! I particularly love the Aspect of Gilgamesh for the Twin Fists. And Megaera. Especially Megaera.
