Ok, I've seen enough. I can't contribute to this medium anymore. I don't know what happens next. We resuscitate blogs and go from there? I don't know. But this is fucked, and I don't think participating at all is net positive.

Back to pure work announcements, I guess. DMs open, love y'all

No joke. I think this is the most important video I have ever seen about mobile games. This guy breaks down how this game psychologically profiles you, and makes the game harder or easier in order to show you ads

Virginia Vassilevska Williams wrote some thoughts about the 3-SUM breakthrough Josh Alman and her wrote an exposition of, how it happened, what it means, and some context about 'what could have been' in a world with more time and fewer models.

Read it here: people.csail.mit.edu/virgi/though...

A week has passed since Josh and I posted our write-up on the arXiv, and I decided to write a few things. Much was said about our write-up. Some were excited, others enraged. Most everyone was scar...

Fun to read this in 2026; I had forgotten about the intro. (it was written in 1995: www2.math.upenn.edu/~wilf/AeqB.pdf)

I'm genuinely glad I read this and worked through all the stages of grief Before Present Discourse; the paper is easily on the pareto front of the (excellence, inspires-dread) diagram.
Good morning, I had a terrible time reading this over breakfast
Fascinating account showing how a false claim can become widely accepted (and propagated by multiple independent sources) as a result of a common academic shortcut: citing a source you haven't actually read after seeing it cited by another source: journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10....

You know, the thing is, I had drafted this piece a month ago, and then never published it, because I thought maybe it was too mean.

Meet "lmd", a new "JSX-like" mode in Quarto 2: embedded markdown inside Lua (and vice versa).

Templating will be a whole lot easier, and you still get good syntax errors for both Lua and QMD here.

What happens when you have a Lua tree-sitter grammar that you can extend _just_ so next to a markdown tree-sitter grammar?

taking music seriously made me notice one big meta-skill

if you're going to make the move from appreciation to performance, you better figure out how to enjoy the struggle.

That's not out of some vague stoic sense; it's just that the ratio of time spent struggling vs performing is like 20-50:1

By far my least favorite Zed feature is the automatic filetype detector. It triggers mid-typing and changes the meaning of keyboard actions: you're typing in a plain-text document and Zed decides to flip to Markdown mode.

So you end up having to type while staring at the status line.

Zed, _why_.
