New on the CUNY AI Lab blog: Spring 2026 CAIL fellow Jonathan B. Toro on the limits of AI-assisted coding and how our tendency to anthropomorphize LLMs can obscure the human knowledge and communities that make digital infrastructure possible. ailab.gc.cuny.edu/blog/saying-...

New on the CUNY AI Lab blog: we run nearly all of our tools on open-weight models. Here’s why. (Spoiler alert: they are more transparent, cost a fraction of the proprietary flagship models, and have all but closed the capability gap.) ailab.gc.cuny.edu/blog/running...

I wish more institutions would dedicate resources to home-grown critical AI experimentation, rather than ceding control and precious dollars to our tech overloads. @cunyailab.bsky.social is a model of how to do this! #ACH2026

We’re glad to share the CUNY Graduate Center AI Guidelines, co-drafted by three of the CUNY AI Lab’s co-founders.

The guidelines are meant to support thoughtful, transparent, and critically engaged uses of AI in teaching, research, and administrative work across the GC community.
I’m excited to shared draft AI Guidelines for the CUNY Graduate Center community @thegraduatecenter.bsky.social

Importantly, they embed a right of refusal for faculty, staff, and students where reasonable alternatives exist.
thanks to @lukewaltzer.bsky.social @mkgold.bsky.social and Chief librarian Maura Smale @thegraduatecenter.bsky.social for developing these draft AI Guidelines
