therefore narratives invite and require a certain kind of literate scrutiny: what is the story this piece of art is telling ABOUT its subjects? (this also applies to still images, which can tell stories). what script is affirmed or subverted? whose POV is elevated & appealed to, whose is omitted?

"social scripts" are called that for a reason. because they are SCRIPTS, they are learned narratives about how humans interact with each other. narrative is how we internalize empathy, and how we frame certain people as enemies or outsiders. narrative is how we organize our own memories

this, too, is not only a LACK of literacy but an active, hostile REFUSAL of it.

that narratives shape the way we see the world and people around us is one of the most well established facts about the concept of media. but some people do not want to think about how narratives form the world

people talk about "media literacy" usually in the context of "needing the villain to look into the camera and tell you they're bad," but it goes the other way too--people will fly into a rage and start insisting "fiction has no effect on reality" if you DO acknowledge context, subtext, framing, etc.

I suppose I should do a little update regarding my blog. There's nothing in the works for it yet. I'll maybe do a shorter piece in the coming months if I find something to write about. That said since the start of March I've been near non-stop writing a first draft that has gotten to 94,000 words. >

Let women be masculine.

Let women date women.

Let women be strong and confident and brash and arrogant and violent and furious and ripped and boorish and ambitious and powerful.

Let women BE.

as always, there’s nothing sabotaging leftist politics quite as effectively as misogynistic men, great job everyone.
this is what your search for a leftist masculinity will always get you, you can’t have leftism and patriarchy.
this dynamic described by jenny racicot is, as i understand it, very common among progressive women in maine. they’ve been put in an impossible position and feel like they’re tanking platner’s campaign when in reality he did that on his own by being a violent and reckless person.

It's actually fantastic that women are increasingly refusing to submit to male supremacy and the everyday tyranny and terror it is built on.
There are very few things that give me hope but the fact women are pushing back hard against men's domination and mediocrity is the main one.

the paterfamilias cannot be appeased & he will never accept anything short of the absolute right of sexual authority. and all of us, ALL of us, are bodies over & against which that authority is defined, produced, & made real. any ONE of us escaping is an existential threat to his rule over the rest.

children's rights, trans rights, and women's rights are inescapably bound together because all of us are types of people socially defined by the dominant order based on what makes us "not cis men" and thus how we may be owned and exploited by cis men in the production of their own status as "not us"

Like, marxism is a powerful analytical tool but if you ignore the thing Marx constantly shouts - HISTORICISE - you *will* start hurting people becaus it is also a politics which which sees power as an end and the tools you use to wield that are older and stronger than you.

This machine that has been doing mass death and oppression for 5000 years just needs a lick of red paint and it'll be fine. It's just a tool after all. You can use tools for anything. Anyway, I have this hammer and you look mighty nail shaped.

Class society, patriarchy, racialised slavery and the state all came into being at the same time and started doing empires basically immediately but sure, you can just do states without all that other stuff. It's fine.
Critique of the state and the way that all states function is not a trivial disposable concern because it's a key way that counter revolutionary forces function.

If you're going to visit the Midlands and you're from the US, please internalise this map. The land mass of the West Midlands is almost equivalent to all of the continental US.

Pick a region & see sights there. You literally can't take in more than that in a single trip

This and the "no smoothgroins" center/left politics are the same exact politics, just expressed through different social clades along the religious-secular spectrum but otherwise perfectly compatible in their overarching vision for the proper organization of society

Just a quickly put together but fun little poem. I do love the line 'arms the length of love entwine them' which I've taken from another poem I wrote ages ago.

And to add on to this. There is so much in the Epstein files related to his pursuits, funding, and investigation into AI tech and human consciousness. so many names, in fact an entire list of them, in those fields of study. >
Both Yavin and Thiel have overtly expressed the desire to politically disenfranchse women, and we've been seeing precisely that with attacks on bodily autonomy. Suffrage not yet but aggressive gerrymandering in the US by republicans may serve to accomplish that there; having also a racism to it.

Instinctively reached for my copy of anti-Oedipus like an exorcist reaching for her bible to banish a demon.

Yet another example, like that one train station advert, which exemplifies the misogynistic desires being encoded into the production, marketing, and use-extents of these technologies. >

I think we really need to do something about misogyny in this world, and more and more it seems to be not just a matter of justice and social functioning, but existential for the human species.
