Watched #TwoWeeksInAugust which is an odd little beast about a group of friends going on holiday to Greece to expose their failings as people with a sprinkling of Ancient Greek theatre. I think the script is perfectly good, but it's elevated by a cast who know exactly what they're doing.

People still vote Conservative. Every party has its core of diehards who will vote for them whatever. Every story about Reform showing their true colours shows every other voter just what they'd be voting for if they listened to the "inevitable" marketing. It is a worthwhile line of reporting.
Mega-donors, Nigel’s £5m gift, the Channel 4 sting... Farage’s faithful couldn’t care less about his scandals.

You know that thing where you can listen to a song for years and not really pay attention to the lyrics? I've just paid attention to the lyrics of Downtown by SWV and feel very silly for ever thinking it might have been about public transport infrastructure.

I've had what might be a new, and possibly even significant, thought about Doctor Who's late 1980s cancellation. This is a free subscribers e-mail, and free to read on the site too, but if you agree, why not become a paid subscriber? Or indeed, even if you don't.

OK, so a quick #Space1999, which I accidentally watched almost 27 years after the day it was set. the moon is crashing towards another planet but an old superstar actress convinces Konig that it'll be fine if they just do nothing. Proper 1970s weird mysticism, Age of Aquarius in Space.

Cis people, please refuse to answer these questions, so that the refusal itself isn't a forced self-outing for trans people.
As of May 2026, Police Scotland now ask every person who reports or witnesses a crime for data about their “sex” and their “trans status”.

These questions are voluntary - you are not legally required to disclose your sex or your trans status to the police when reporting or witnessing a crime.

One thing rewatching Higson's #JekyllAndHyde has made me realise is that I was wrong about why it dipped towards the end: the problem section is the run of episodes by other writers that I'm firmly in at the middle. I'd thought they meandered from the main story, but that isn't actually the case.

I’m looking at a physical copy of the shooting script of Diamonds Are Forever I found in a pile of box files and discovering that “named after your father no doubt” is a later addition, possibly added on set, and yes, I do have work to do.

Found a wonderful example of white privilege/default to white. 45 years I've been a fan of #DoctorWho, and along the way I've written at length about its relationship with race and its not white fans. Not once did the obvious point of this article occur to me. www.polygon.com/tv/2018/10/5...

I did a somewhat deep dive into the recent OpenAI and Anthropic "hacks" for an upcoming interview.

IMO, the AI companies are better off running with the "rogue AI" story because the real story is actually pretty embarrassing.

Like making your Wi-Fi password "wifi" embarrassing. 🧵

#Blakes7 has been on my watch list for a while. I saw watch because I'd always assumed I'd watched it on broadcast because the theme tune always provoked a Proustian rush. But I'd never checked the production dates: I was 2 when it started. I suspect I heard Papa Smith watching.
