The diesel price at the station I pass after dropping my kiddo off at school, on Wednesday morning: $7.99/gal.

At the same station at 8 the same night, as I returned from a parent meeting: $8.29.

There again this morning, after dropping my kid off: $8.69.

An ~8% jump in two days. Yikes.

It's weird that a technology built on stealing and lying would go on to steal and lie. I'm shook, the machine must be alive.

AI researchers "got spooked by their own card tricks and the sudden, oddly-belated realization that their managers are a bunch of unethical dumbasses."

This is very good.
Over at the newsletter I wrote about the media's total failure to responsibly cover batshit claims that software has gained human-level awareness and will soon kill us all
AI Doomsday Panic Is Completely Out Of Control
The press obsession with software-powered doomsday is a misdirection overshadowing a much deadlier reality: our public interest regulators no longer function.

New — I wrote about this weird thing where people within the Republican party keep being exposed as Nazis and the party then tries to claim each one is an aberration. The facts, as I lay out here, indicate otherwise:
Republicans don’t have a Nazi problem—they are the Nazi problem
A spate of recent revelations have shown the ideologies and their adherents are one and the same.

It's genuinely fascinating that the US president keeps announcing that he just flat out doesn't know what trade is, he legit doesn't appreciate the concept of exchange and instead views economic activity through the lens of a dragon attempting to maximise its gold hoard to sit upon.
Well, that took longer than I thought, but he hath spoken:

yes. i would wager that these people genuinely believe that the country is MAGA and that there is a vast and untapped audience to be appealed to. incidentally, these people also exist in an impenetrable bubble of sycophants.
a lot of people think that faillison hired bari weiss to deliberately destroy CBS news and i think all of you need to consider the possibility that he hired her because he genuinely thought she would be successful.
a wild thing is that they didn’t just give her editorial control, they gave her what sounds like operational control (over hiring/firing), which would be objectively an insane thing to do even if she was good at editorial, which she isn’t, or had experience at an org this size, which she doesn’t

I take issue with labeling them as “amoral” vs. “immoral”. Why are we giving these guys even an ounce of credit? We should point out they are immoral until they prove us otherwise.

The most amoral people on the planet would like you to know that they're concerned their work might be dangerous and you can trust them to slow it down.

Featuring Wrigley’s moon-faced mascot, the “Spearman,” this terrifying figure once advertised packs of chewing gum in the 1920s. Made of iron with a celluloid face, it bears a worn message on its chest with a slogan that reads: “Be sure it’s Wrigley’s”.
