Research librarian, formerly worked with music and local studies collections in public libraries. Interested in library data, games in libraries, open access.
I haven't posted much on here, but going to make an attempt at using it again. I have moved jobs and am now working in the academic library sector, supporting open access research and PGRs. Looking to make contact with others in similar roles

ALA is heartbroken at the passing of country music legend and literacy champion Dolly Parton.

Her Imagination Library initiative, inspired by her father's inability to read or write, has put millions of books into children's hands and was considered by her to be among her greatest achievements.

Would be better for ministers to overhaul how #Localgov is funded (and the powers councils need to raise revenue) rather than announcements like this - £150,000 divided by 72 library authority areas, which is around £2,000 for each area with multiple libraries in them. It's not much at all.
Great news - Govt has just announced new public library strategy is coming later this year - we've been campaigning on this for years at #CILIP! Also £150k funding boost for 72 areas of deprivation during National Year of Reading. www.gov.uk/government/n... #NYR2026

BREAKING: President Donald Trump abruptly fires Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden.

The dismissal was disclosed in statements from three top House Democrats and confirmed by a separate person familiar with the matter.

President Trump's executive order to eliminate the Institute of Museum & Library Services would have disastrous effects for communities nationwide. We call on all Americans who value reading & learning to reach out to their elected leaders.

CILIP is concerned that the removal, hiding, and modification of data, research and other information resources by authorities in the USA is already starting to impede the vital work of UK information professionals.

A quick calculation suggests that just like last year it wouldn't be much more expensive than the CILIP conference to fly to the US, stay in a hostel for 5 nights and attend the ALA Conference. Something is wrong if you can attend a much bigger international conference for pretty much the same price
I know conferences are expensive to run, but what is the point of holding it all if the cost effectively stops the vast majority of professionals the organisation is supposed to represent from attending? 👀 @cilip.bsky.social I’m looking at you among others…

I think the only book we had to read that I loathed was The Mayor of Casterbridge 🥱 never even finished reading it, just read the revision guide. I enjoyed pretty much everything else we read
US and UK friends, I'm curious: What books were part of your required reading for highschool literature class? Which of them do you remember loving, and which did you loathe?
