I said some time ago that if I were someone intent on eliminating the Green Party of England and Wales as an electoral threat, the Zionism is Racism motion would be exactly how I'd go about it. (1)

This statement would carry a lot more weight were it not for the quite blatant antisemitism that appears to be being entirely tolerated, and Jewish members' concerns dismissed.
Following the vote on the anti-Zionist policy at Green Party Conference, the 5 Green MPs, the Leader and Co-Deputy Leaders have issued a joint statement

It’s like an arms race of obnoxiousness, and the pro-Palestine side is putting in a strong performance after a few years of dominance by the pro-Israel side

This is what i wrote following the ZIR vote. Want to be clear that this is my personal view and not the view of the Jewish Greens committee and this is about as polite as I can manage currently.

I am deeply saddened the ‘Zionism is Racism’ motion has passed. It doesn't reflect Green principles or my own view.

The Green Party has long supported the principle of self-determination, and I stand by our 2024 manifesto commitment of equal rights of Israelis and Palestinians.

Not nearly enough. You have lost control of your own party. Passing an openly racist motion exposes exactly who most of your members are. Horrific.

I voted Green when they were a party concerned with the environment. Now they are a one policy party and that policy is antisemitism.

Tbh, i strongly doubt most Greens are at all antisemitic - most will disagree strongly with the actions of the Israeli gov. but they'll have already realised that they've really shot themselves in the foot with this stupid action and badly let down the wider green cause.

If the bluesky chat is right, then Greens democratic structurea were exploited by entryists, and the leadership push back came way too late to turn it back. A massive setback.

Meanwhile climate change doubles down.

If the amendments had passed, it'd be possible to argue for the motion as a hard stance against the Israeli government and those that enable it. With those amendments having been debated and rejected, I think it's impossible to portray them as anything but a racist party, even if individuals aren't.

It’s clear what they’ve become. As a non-practicing Jew who’s had to distance themselves from some family & friends )as a result of my strident objections to Netanyahu, his coalition of extremists and the direction they have driven Israel) the Green Party has now lost me.

I'm not in the Green Party, but even as a non-practising Jew, I agree with what this activist is saying. It's the Netenyahu Govt (and those that fully support them) that are the racists, not Zionism, not Judaism and not Jews. There's much confusion amongst non-Jewish people

This was the breaking point for me.

This is a perfectly reasonable and empathetic amendment that respects family ties and Jewish community institutions. It in no way undermined the purpose of the emotion as sold.

To vote against it is absolutely unhinged and, in my opinion, openly antisemitic.
An amendment (3) designed to protect Jewish members from expulsion (and proposed by some of them) FELL

Explicitly supporting one side over another when both sides are intent on ethic cleansing the other out of existence is not a good look for any political party.

I see a bit of green behind the ears idealism has got the Green party into a bit of a hole

We all can have splendid ideals but then there is realpolitik

Ask Mr Corbyn about how that works

To be absolutely clear:

Most of what I post is self promotion / domestic politics / stupid shit; the war is none of those things, and my posts won't make a blind bit of difference; criminalising pro-Palestine campaigners is disgusting; Nethanyahu belongs in the Hague.

This motion is still bad.

I agree 100% with Carla's excellent analysis of the situation.

That this inherently racist motion eventually passed is unbelievably counterproductive for the green party and means I cannot in conscience vote for them until such time as this is overturned or modified

The Iran anti-sanctions motion wasn't debated in the end at Green Party conference (ran out of time as I understand it)

5 of the 12 named proposers of 'Zionism is Racism' motion were also proposers of the anti-sanctions Iran motion (and 2 more backed it in the internal party discussion thread)
