These days, the main things that I'm spending time on are programming, Tai Chi, and Nei Gong. I blog at https://malvasiabianca.org .
I like it how, when the Steam Machine is updating your Steam Controller, it says that you need to plug it in via a USB-C cable but also points out that you can use the cable attached to the puck if you want. (And then it reminds you to plug the puck back in once it's done with the update.)

Yay, the Xbox disc to digital license thing seems to work fine for the only physical game I've got for the last two generations, which is Rock Band 4. (I still wish I'd bought it digitally before it disappeared from the store for licensing reasons, but I appreciate this anyways.)

I was looking forward to watching Schmigadoon, but nope.

I made a mac version of that iphone app I was writing for doing repeated TODOs in a non-nagging way, so if anybody was interested in beta testing it but couldn't because of the platform and now you can, let me know.

I didn't realized that Emacs Lisp had switched to lexical binding instead of dynamic binding.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon has a mini game where you have to try to stay awake during a movie; this is very relatable!

Watching Liesl play Hades makes me think I should play Hades 2 soon. Though even if I play it next, it'll be a little while, since I'm not very far into Yakuza: Like a Dragon. (I'm liking the brawler -> RPG shift in that series just fine, FWIW.)

Chocolate soup dumplings are a fine invention.

I am not sure why Duolingo periodically makes its icon ugly; all that does is encourage me to move it off of my home screen…

A pass on another screen of the Mac version of my app, going from what SwiftUI was giving me by default to something much cleaner.

I don’t _think_ I want to reread the Vorkosigan Saga (at the rate of one a month) to go along with Kirk Hamilton’s new podcast on the series, but I am tempted enough that I’m not sure…

Our new dishwasher apparently has a "Kosher Consumer Friendly Mode" that seems to basically disable it for up to three days.

We now have a new dishwasher installed two weeks after the old one broke; honestly, the whole process went surprisingly well.

Wow, I've never seen a captcha try to send me malware this way…

It's too bad that there don't seem to be any singing games with a good show tunes selection.

A new art gallery opened up in downtown Mountain View, I like the current exhibition.

I went to the Hadestown movie today; really glad I did, I'd never quite gotten a hold on it from the album, but it turns out to be a good musical. But: weird that Euridice reappears at the end, it's okay, even good for theater to ask you to sit with tragedy?

It was fun going from the first version here (what happened when I enabled Mac builds of the app) to the second version.

Today's bit of paranoia: I was shopping for magsafe battery packs that also have magsafe on the back (so I can attach my grip); Amazon shows one from Belkin that looks really good. But I can't find it on Belkin's website. What are the odds that it's actually from Belkin instead of a fake?
August 7, 2026 at 1:56 AM
Sigh, Amazon has decided that it should stop including item names in its order emails.
