Marking is valuable because it strengthens teachers' professional judgement and helps them to understand standards and interpret student work. For many it is how they 'know' their students. Marking is how the profession learns, maintains standards, and ensures fairness.

It's an interesting observation that, so far, only US AI companies have caused cyber incidents. It would be interesting to determine whether it is due to a technology gap or because the chase for higher valuations has created a culture of negligence.

Schools are experimenting with AI with little evidence or policy to guide them
Teachers are using AI to develop lesson plans, and in some districts, AI chatbots give students feedback on their work. Meanwhile, the research around how AI can help students is extremely limited.
